"Did you hear? Lucy's out of the hospital! She comes back today!" I heard Gray's voice echo through the air as I walked onto campus. Afterwards, I heard a gasp from multiple different persons, but what caught my attention the most was when I heard Laxus speak up to Gray.
"Lucy is coming back? Today? Are you sure? You know that joking with me about Lucy isn't a good idea, Fullbuster!"
"Chill, Laxus! I'm sure, Natsu told me. You can see your little crush today, alright?" The group came into view and Laxus was a light shade of pink. Laxus liked me? What? Calm down, pretend you didn't hear anything. I got closer and then Natsu got me from behind and picked me up bridal style. Laughing our heads off, he then ran over to the group with me still in his arms.
"I welcome, the one, the only, LUCY!!" He put me onto my feet and I then curtsied to the group chuckling. The girls returned the gesture and the boys bowed their heads respectfully. Everyone was laughing. The girls tackled me with hugs and all the guys fist bumped me, all except Laxus. This caught me off guard, I mean, yeah, he liked me, but he's avoiding me?
"Oi, Laxus! What're you doing over there away from all the group?" Everyone's attention was drawn to Laxus now. Gray walked over and whispered something into Laxus's ear. Laxus looked taken aback, and the pink on his cheeks had darkened. I pretended not to notice. Gray motioned towards me and I was startled at this.
"Um, what do I have to do with what's going on?" It was kind of impossible not to notice that. Laxus turned an even darker shade of red, but so did Natsu, only Natsu wasn't blushing. He stormed over to Laxus and looked him straight in the eyes."I've got it figured out now! If you think that I'm not going to protect Lucy no matter what, you're wrong. I will break you if she gets hurt, just letting you know." Now my face was slightly pink.
"Natsu! If someone wouldn't mind filling me in on what the heck is going on, that would be really nice!" Gray shoved Laxus.
"U-uh...um..Lucy," Laxus began. I nodded questionably. "I was, uh, I was wondering..."
"She's not gonna say yes if you don't say it proudly. Just a tip, since I know how Lucy is." Natsu chimed in from behind Laxus. I shrugged my shoulders.
"Well, you see that depends. There'scertain things that I only say yes to if it's said proudly, but in order for me to know if this is one of them, I have to know what it is! Mind filling me in yet?"
"Will you go out with me?" Laxus finally spat it out, face looking like Natsu's hair. I shrugged my shoulders and started towards the school.
"I'll think about it." I answered with a wave of my hand. It's true that if he had asked me out at the beginning of the year, I wouldn't have even thought before accepting! It's just, I've become really good friends with him and I feel like it just wouldn't work out, at all. I'm gonna have to think for a while. Should I give him a chance?
"Lucy!" I heard my name screamed out from behind me. I turned around to see the little girl with blue hair that I snapped at before. Since then, I've learned her name is Wendy.
"Oh, hey Wendy. Sorry for snapping at you when we first met. I had been in a really bad mood and I don't like it at all when people say that me and Natsu are dating."
"Oh, that's okay. I shouldn't have assumed. Anyway, I wanted to ask, what's up with Laxus? He keeps on twitching and saying your name, and he also keeps smacking himself in the face."
"He is?" She nodded. I facepalmed and walked all the way back over to Laxus and the guys. Gray was laughing, Gajeel was sleeping, and, just as Wendy had said, Laxus was freaking out. I also noticed that Natsu was glaring at Laxus, the exact same way he was when I walked away from the group. I rolled my eyes with a little smirk and walked over to Natsu. I gently placed my hand on his shoulder and he jumped slightly making me chuckle. He looked at me startled and then he gave me a soft smile.
"Hey, it's fine. Calm down, you'll always be my number one." I said as I gave him a small punch on the arm. His smile faded slightly and he looked away from me. He looked back at Laxus, then his smile returned.
"It's official," he began. "I'm your new father figure. No boys until you're dead." He said with a firm nod of his head. We both chuckled and then I took his hand in mine, looked him in the eye and said,
"Awwwww! But that's gonna be forever!" I gave a five year old puppy dog pout and stuck out my bottom lip just to top off the look. We chuckled once again and then gave each other a long, tight hug. I don't know what it was, but I never wanted to let go of him just then. When we pulled away, I was fighting tears for some reason. It hurt me when he just gave me that smile, kissed my forehead, and then walked away to the school building. I wish time would freeze so that I could hold on to that moment just a little longer. Just a little longer, I wish he could hold me in his arms the way he did. It made feel safe, and it made me know that at least one person in this world loved me.
I went through the rest of that day in some kind of trance. I was in my own little world of thoughts and emotions. I was confused. I had never felt like that when he hugged me before. Something didn't seem right. I loved him, and I knew that he loved me, but something about the word love feels different now, but I can't figure out why. I don't even remember how the rest of the day went, all I remember is sitting in every class trying to save the feeling of his arms wrapped around me...for just a little longer.
