Too Late

Perfect

"This is SO BORING!" I yelled at the nurse as she switched my IV bag.

"Miss, if you keep screaming I'm going to have to sedate you."

"Sorry. This is just painfully boring" She rolled her eyes and walked out of my room. I swear I heard her mutter drama queen as she left.

A different more pleasant nurse then walked into my room.

"Miss, you have a visitor."

In walked Eddie and my heart skipped a beat, he was holding a card and had a smug look on his face.

"What's that?" I pointed behind his back.

"Oh this?" he gestured to the card. "It's nothing much really just for someone."

"Is it for me?" he laughed and finally gave in handing me the card. I opened it and was met with a riddle.

'A vase is what

This usually adorns

Be careful though

As it might have some thorns'

"Is it...a Rose?" his smile grew larger.

"Not a rose." he left the room and walked back in with a bouquet of red roses.

"You like roses...right?"

"Yes of course Eddie, thank you so much!" I smiled as he put the bouquet of roses in a vase. 

"So how is everything at the station?"

"Well right now it's a little hectic due to everything that's been going on. Jim and Harvey are busy as ever and I finally get some time off tonight."

"So are you doing anything special on your night off?" A guilty look came over his face.

"Well I have a dinner date with uh... Kristen." there was an awkward silence.

"Oh, that will be fun. Are you cooking for her?" My heart sinking as I spoke.

"Yes, I'm making pasta for her...she uh loves spaghetti."

"Well, I hope you two have a wonderful time Edward."

I tried to be happy for him even though I was longing for his presence deep down inside, all I wanted him to do was stay. I knew he wanted Kristen...I would always be second.

"So what have you been doing all day, besides yelling at the nurses?"

"Well, I was watching the news and reading books and watching the news again...."

"Did you see the story on The Maniax?" he couldn't contain his excitement.

"Yeah I did, who are they?"

"Well we have identified five, they escaped Arkham. Barba Kean, Jerome Valeska, Robert Greenwood, Aaron Helzinger, and Arnold Dobbins. They all are level three patients at the Asylum.....murderers, psychopaths, and the one guys a cannibal. We have no leads on who let them out or why."

"Ed you are way too cheerful when you describe stuff like this" his smile grew larger and he chuckled.

"I can't help it."

Somehow we got on the topic of early like and he started to talk on about his interest when he was first going to college. He had already told me before about how he wanted to be a doctor, and then to a paramedic. In the middle of one of his stories about some college party, he stopped and looked at the clock above my door.

"Oh no! Kristen is going to be arriving at my apartment in less than an hour! I'm so sorry Kat but I have to go." he looked at me apologetically.

"It's fine Eddie, I understand." he gave my hand a squeeze and walked out.

After he left my evening nurse rolled in my dinner tray.

"Honey I need to find me one of those boys, where did you find one like that?" I laughed, if only he was mine.

*Edward's POV*

I could tell I was driving erratically by the many beeps and gestures given to me on my way out of the hospital parking lot. I had to get back to my apartment before Kristen got their I was already nervous, given it was our second date at my place. I went through all of the ingredients that I was going to need in my brain just to make sure I had them all.

*Ring Ring Ring*

I looked over in the passenger seat to see that I was receiving a call from Kristen.

"Hello?" she couldn't be there already.

"Ed! I'm so sorry it seems I'm running a little late! I got caught up with some paperwork at the station! I might be an hour late, is that okay?" relief filled my body.

"Yes of course Kristen take your time! I will see you in about an hour then!"

"Thank you so much Ed, see you tonight!"

"Yup, see you later!" I heard her giggle and then the line clicked on the other side.

Everything was working perfectly now that Kristen was going to be late. I could cook before she came and maybe even brush up on a few riddles for her.....this was going to be a night to remember.
