Moon

___________

I walked in the streets a few blocks away from my house. The streetlights guiding me to see the path I'm walking to. It was dark and cold but I didn't mind it. I was used to doing this at night.

The darkness and the unusual time didn't scare me. I continued following the path I always take until the houses are finally out of my sight. I met a peaceful place along the way, it means that that I'm getting near to the bridge.

I smiled to myself as my eyes landed to the river in front of me. A small bridge was attached to it. This place isn't visited much since it was almost a deserted place.

But that's what makes it lovable for me. The calm river, the bridge and the peacefulness of it makes it appealing to me. It was only minutes away from the house but since people on our neighborhood were all busy taking the roads, no one seemed to notice this beautiful place.

There were flowers at the ends of the bridge which made it look like a little garden. A bench was placed faced near the bridges, facing the river. I sat on the edge of the bridge, I hung my legs as I swayed my feet. I sighed and hugged myself as the wind blew.

The icy wind touched my face, blowing the strands of my hair along with it. I'm happy. I like this feeling whenever I'm here. I found this place when I was still a kid. I used to go here and play when I sneak out. But then dad forbid me to come back when he found out about it, saying that it's a bridge and it's dangerous to play near the river.

I listened to him like what I always do but I found myself coming back when things started to get rough between dad and I. I find this a perfect place to run to and hide. I was here when dad isn't there for me.

I looked at the Moon's reflection in the water. The water waved softly as the wind blew again. "What are you doing here so late?" I was startled at the voice that spoke, making my heart jump as well. I turned a bit and saw Daniel standing beside me.

His hands inside his pockets as he look at me. I glanced back at the river. "Trying to escape, I guess?" I let out a soft laugh. I didn't expect to see him here. I looked at him again, "But what are you doing here?" I asked him.

He shrugged, "I saw you so I stopped by." He looked at me and titled his head. "Do you mind?" He asked, gesturing the space beside me. I averted my gaze and shook my head.

"No, not at all." I replied as I looked anywhere but him. I don't feel nervous around him anymore. But the hammering inside my chest got worse, I don't even know if that's the nervous feeling or something else. I felt him sit beside me. "I'm not ruining your escape plan, am I?" He hesitated to sit for a moment. I let out a chuckle and and mumbled "no".

He nodded and seated comfortably now. After that, no one spoke. It was quiet, but it's a peaceful one that didn't seem awkward. "It's dangerous for a girl like you to be alone at times like this, you know." I heard him say beside me. I smiled, "I think I can handle myself. Besides, this is a place that people doesn't seem to discover." I shook my head.

"Then why are you here, if that's the case?" He asked in a playful tone. I shrugged, "It's my favorite place. Why are you here when I know that's the case." I asked and raised a brow at him. He stared at me with an amused look in his face. "I saw you here and thought that I'd join you before other people even get the chance to." I laughed at his answer. He just pouted his lips a bit and didn't say anything more.

I looked up above and gazed at the moon. It was surrounded with twinkling stars that made it more dazzling in my eyes. "It's mesmerizing, isn't it?" I whispered as I look at the quarter moon above us. "Yes, it is." I smiled at his answer and looked at him only to see that he was staring at me. My heart thumped and once again it was beating, fast and loud.
