It's getting really late, but I don't want to go home yet. Home is where I'll be safe, but if I go home, I'll still be anxious. My heart is pounding after confronting Jacob.

When I feel like this I always want to be with Ross, and I wish I could be with him now.

I just want this to be over.

I turn and head towards his house. It's about time I make myself talk to him.

When I knock on the door, chewing my lip anxiously, his mother answers and gives me a weird look.

"He's not here," she says, frowning.

"Oh," I say, surprised. Where could Ross have gone so late at night? "Is he out on a walk?" I ask.

She narrows her eyes, annoyed. "He's in Oakwood, and no, I don't know why. Just tell him he better get back here."

"O-Okay." I nod slightly. "Um, sorry to disturb you so late..."

She closes the door in my face. I bite my lip, feeling my cheeks turn red. I don't like her very much.

Why is Ross in his old town? Is he by himself?

I text him as I walk away from his house, and I also realize that his car isn't even here.

I want to talk to you. Where are you?

He doesn't reply. I wait a few minutes, then gather up the courage to call him. He still doesn't answer.

I could let it go and talk to him tomorrow, but I just can't.

So I call Taylor. "Um, hi, it's Jude. So... Ross is in his old town," I tell him once he answers.

"Why?" he asks, sounding confused.

"I was going to ask you that. I just... I really want to talk to him, but he's not answering his phone." I don't know why my heart is beating so hard as I talk to Taylor. I guess I'm still shaken up from Jacob.

He's quiet for a moment, then asks, "Well, do you want to go find him?"

"Yes," I say, without hesitation.

"Then I'll pick you up."

I can't help but smile to myself as I tell him where I am. When Taylor pulls his car up a few minutes later, I feel nervous as I get in.

"Thank you," I say, folding my hands in my lap after fixing my seatbelt. "I guess I'm just worried about him being out so late... far from home..."

"Yeah," says Taylor. "Me too. I have an idea of where he might be, though. There's only one place he still goes in Oakwood."

"By the river?" I ask, remembering the scenic overlook Ross took me too.

Taylor nods.

The drive seems to take longer than I remember, but somehow I relax. The two of us are quiet. After all, we spoke just several hours ago. There's nothing left to be said about my situation with Ross. Now it's just up to me to figure out what'll happen with us.
