Jinxed

I jinxed it, I know I did. The purple gray thunder clouds are darkening by the minute. Spreading out across the sky like a swarm of mad hornets. Hopefully I gathered enough firewood for the night. Giddian was rushing around like a mad man using strips of palm leaves To tie Branches and sticks to make the structures support.

"Stop standing around and help me Ila!"

"I'm coming" I say tossing the firewood under a shrub at to not get them yet. Taking strips of shaved bark from the trees I lay them over the structure's roof. While Giddian ties the ends down I pull moss From under a rock and lay it over the bark so there are no leaks. Finally putting the palm leaves over the moss the shelters complete. Ripping my cape in two I use half as the door and half to cover us in.

While settling down Giddian suddenly realizes he still had the sack from the boat. Leaving me to retrieve the sack. Coming back moments later he empties the contents of the bag into my lap. Sorting through we find we have three fishhooks, a roll of string, fourteen matches, a tin cup, a spoon, pocket knife and a needle and spool of thread. Striking a match he lights the fire wood I had brought in when he was gone.

As if a dream I think of the night we were in the library as kids reading. Huddling down together we draw the soft warm velvet cape around us. To prepare for the rugged night to come we say our thanks for the day and drift to sleep.
