Preparing for battle

When I arrived at Cross's office, I found that Zero and Takuma were already there discussing the plan. Cross turned to me and smiled with relief,

"Y/N I'm glad you're here. I was about to send Takuma to look for you. We were discussing how to proceed. Any thoughts?"

I moved to sit in an ornate wooden chair made of dark oak with velvet cushions. Takuma smiled politely at me and waved. I waved back and sent Zero a kind smile which he returned. I turned to Cross and spoke to him,

"I'm the one who needs to use the blade on Alek. I'm the only one who even stands a chance. Do you have the dead mans blood?"

Cross nodded and pulled out a large rectangular black box, handing it to me as he spoke,

"There is enough in here to paralyze a normal vampire for at least three hours, so it should give you enough time to use this."

He reached back under his desk and pulled out the large dagger,

"I've already enacted the enchantment. If you pierce his heart it will kill him. He can't come back from it in any way. But you will only have one chance to strike. I can't guarantee the blood will hold him."

I nodded in understanding, feeling the pressure start to weigh on me as Takuma addressed Cross seriously,

"If Y/N is doing that she'll need an opening. How do you want to proceed?"

Cross's eyes flicked over to Takuma as he responded,

"You will need to distract Alek while Zero holds back the other members of the Night Class."

Takuma sat back in his chair, worry in his eyes as he spoke,

"Will the four of us be able to?"

"Five."

A voice said from behind us. The four of you turned to see Rido leaning in the doorframe. I smiled brightly and ran over to hug him,

"Rido!"

He held me tightly for a moment before letting me go, smiling fondly down at me,

"Hey Y/N. Don't worry, this ends tonight."

He said firmly while resting his hand on my shoulder comfortingly, causing a smile to tug at my lips. Takuma and Zero looked at us in confusion,

"Why is he here? He's the one who kidnapped Y/N!"

Zero exclaimed angrily. Cross smiled calmly at him and responded,

"Rido was a friend of Y/N's family when she was little, along with Kaname. He tried to save her the day her parents were killed. He came to me the other day and told me that he wanted to help. We've been discussing this for a while, actually."

Zero seemed surprised and I smiled at him,

"I'm sorry I didn't tell either of you. Rido had asked me not to. He knew something was going on and he was trying to protect me."

Zero smiled slightly at me,

"I'm just glad you're safe. If he's going to protect you, then I have no objection to him being here."

I gave him a look of gratitude as I turned to Takuma, silently asking him for his opinion. The blonde smiled kindly at me,

"If you trust him, then that's good enough for me."

My eyes lit up happily as Rido looked to Cross,

"If you help Takuma distract Alek, I can help Zero fight the Night Class. As another pure blood, I stand at the advantage in battle. While Zero and I fight them, Takuma and Cross will distract Alek. You'll have to be paying attention and when you see an opening for the love of god take it. You might only get one."

Rido directed his attention towards me as he spoke his last sentence. I nodded slightly before speaking,

"How should I get his attention? I'm not sure how to get him here in the first place. I don't want the guys turning on me before they have to."

Cross leaned against the wall in thought. We sat in silence for several minutes as we tried to think of ways to get his attention. Finally, he spoke,

"Alek is prideful. If he sees you alone, upset, and helpless, he'll feel a need to gloat and will most likely appear. We'll be waiting when he does. Just remember that he's your priority. Don't worry about the rest of us."

I glanced out the window and saw the fountains water sparkling in the sunlight. I was worried about having to fight the Night Class. I could see that Cross had the same worries as I did, but we both knew this has to be done. If I don't stop Alek, he'll just kill them. I looked over at Cross and, with great confidence, made a decision,

"I'm ready. I'll be at the fountain. Keep your distance but stay alert."

I stood up from my chair and moved swiftly from the room down to the fountain,, taking a deep breath as I sat down. I pretended to slump onto the ledge in sorrow, my shoulders trembled as I covered my face with my hands, part of it in despair and feigning tears and cries of helplessness. I didn't have to fake too much though, I was terrified to fight the Night Class and Alek. I feared my horrid nightmares would come true. The faces of the vampires I've grown to love and care for flashed through my mind as I cried harder. I stayed like that for a few minutes before I felt the wind shift. I looked up and let out a fake gasp of fear, all my pain and anxiety being replaced with anger and determination as I gazed at the vampire before me. The figure smirked, showing his fangs before he spoke,

"Hello, my dear sister."

I took a deep breath, readying myself for the coming battle before responding,

"Hello, Alek."
