Despite the negative comments of my brothers, Quincy and Hakim, I didn't mind them. Before Wesley reached me, the others went off to dance and stared at him badly. Darell stayed by my side. I then turned to him, "I'll explain everything baby, I promise, but I need to talk to Welsley alone. Please."

He seemed flustered, but he didn't say anything to me. He gave a forced smile and walked away. That's when Wesley finally came to me. I smiled with happiness to see him again and he smiled back at me.

"Look at you," he said, admiring me.

"But... What are you doing here? I mean in Toronto?" I said happy and surprised

"My parents decided to move back here. I couldn't run away my whole life you know. So...we got here the day before yesterday," Wesley said.

"I'm so glad you're back!" I said to him

"You're the only one I think, the way they all look at me and run away from me" When he said those words, I knew it wasn't easy for him to come back. Since his ex-girlfriend committed suicide two years ago before he left, everyone blamed him. Some said he treated her like shit, others said he cheated on her several times or he was abusive to her and some also said he threatened her with naked pictures of hers. His ex-girlfriend's parents even filed a complaint against him and the case went to trial, but they lost as they lacked evidence. However, that didn't stop people from hating him. Everyone is convinced that he is to blame for something. He and his family moved to Vancouver because of the threats and intimidation made against him.

Wesley and I continued to talk for a while about what his life was like in Vancouver, what had changed in our neighbourhood. A few minutes later, I saw Britany arrive. Since there was a group of guys chilling at the front door and checking out the girls' asses so she wouldn't feel uncomfortable, like most of the girls who had to pass between them, I went to greet her and left Wesley.

"Hey girl, happy birthday! You look great tonight!" Britany said relieved to see me arrive. Then she hugged me and handed me a gift bag.

"You know you didn't have to buy me a gift? But thank you!" I smiled.

"I wanted to, you are my friend after all."

"Yeah...we're friends! "I said thoughtfully. She laughed. I added, "I'm so glad you came to my birthday party. Mostly, because I know you live far away," I told her.

"Don't worry, Malik offered me to stay over or worst-case scenario, he'll drop me home as I came by bus and Uber that he paid."

"Are you sure you're talking about the same Malik as..."

I didn't get the chance to finish my sentence when Soukvilay came to pick me to go dance, as the song Akube by Dotman was playing.

"I'll bring her back to you later! I promise!" She said loudly by dragging me to the living room.

"Don't worry about me it's her birthday she needs to turn up and I was about to go find my boyfriend!" Britany said loudly as well.

I invited Britany to join us, unfortunately at the same time, Malik arrived next to her. Britany tried to grab his hand but he dodged. I didn't worry about it. I knew that she wanted to spend time with him as they rarely see each other, because she lives in Richmond Hill, Ontario. I left her with Malik and went dancing with Soukvilay.

Soukvilay was beautiful tonight with her tight grey legging jumpsuit open in the back that let us see her new tattoo that I didn't know about until now. She had tattooed writings in Mandarin on the middle of her spine. Her short, wavy and square hair suited her very well. The more the song progressed, the more attention was drawn to us as our dance was in sync. When the chorus came, Soukvilay moved her pelvis like a true African and even her right hand, which was on her lower belly, followed the movement. As we danced, I saw Darell and his friends watching us. I also heard some of the guys making good comments, especially about Soukvilay. A few minutes later, the song ended and Eko Miami by Maleek Berry began. I saw everyone get up and dance.
