There were a lot more students than I expected.

As they scurried into the classroom, I moved to the side to not get bumped by any of them. I stayed outside. I wasn't usually this shy, but I wasn't used to being the new student, either.

"Quiet down, everyone." my adviser, Miss Kia said. It was the first day of school, but I was probably the only new student in the whole batch. After all, it's rare to see a transferee in 3rd year highschool. At least here. "We have a new student."

She turned her head to the side and motioned me to come. I pursed my lips and pulled out a notebook from my bag.

"Go on, introduce yourself." she urged. I nodded slowly, feeling my heart beat faster, making it hurt a bit. I opened the pad.

'Hello! I'm Moon Lyn Ayumi' it wrote. 'Call me Ayumi'.

I was used to the shocked expressions on their faces. I was used to the whispers, 'what is she doing?' or, 'why is she using a notepad?' but I didn't care about them. I wanted to make friends! This year, I swear I would!

'I'm probably the quietest person you'll know,' I flipped the page. 'But let's be friends!'

I smiled brightly and closed it.

Miss Kia nodded and motioned me to sit in the front, where there was an empty chair. "As you can see, class, Ayumi won't be as loud. You already know why. Please be nice to her."

A girl in the same lane as me raised her hand, and she turned her gaze to me, "But.. you aren't deaf, aren't you?"

The would've been offending.

But I smiled wider and shook my head. She nodded slowly and sat down. Miss Kia started introducing herself and all that, I was listening attentively, not minding the stares I was getting. I felt someone tap my shoulder.

He smiled at me brightly, "Nice to meet you."

My first friend!

I couldn't be more happy. I grinned widely and clapped.

"I'm Park Jimin." he introduced. "Sure, let's be friends!"

My day turned brighter because of that. I didn't have much friends, even in my previous school. They would usually say my presence wasn't as valuable, since I can't even speak or voice out my opinions, but that was okay.

After Miss Kia's class, since it was a shortened schedule, it was already recess.

"Let's sit together!" Jimin said excitedly. I laughed and sat on the table he insisted us to sit on. "Now I kinda wish I knew sign language."

'That's okay.' I signed, before pulling out my sketchpad.

"Do you dance," he read out loud. His eyes gleamed. "Do I dance? Wah! Ayumi, I love dancing!" he said excitedly. "I'm a contemporary dancer. How about you?"

I gasped and pointed at myself, nodding furiously. Who knew I would find such a friend this easy?

"Let's dance together sometime!" he grinned. "What made you interested?"

As I ate, I wrote as well.

'My mother showed me how to dance. Or at least inspired me,' I wrote. 'It was ballet. When I was 6, I took ballet classes with the help of my dad.'

"Woah," he clapped. "You must be really good then."

'I think you're good, too.' I added a happy face at the end.

"Do you want to do some dancing later?" he asked excitedly. "The school has a room for dancing, which for some reason, isn't as used. We can use that!"
