I didn't go home.
But I went to school. I went to the police station the day after and told Ayumi's father about her condition. For some reason, he didn't have anything to say to me, so our conversation was shorter than I anticipated it to be.
As usual, I sat beside her hospital bed, lost in my thoughts as I started writing lyrics for another new song. And maybe I was dreaming, but I saw her shift.
"Ayumi?" I felt myself smiling widely as I dropped the notebook. As expected, her eyes fluttered open slowly, and she looked up to me with her soft eyes. Her lips twitched into a smile and she raised her hand to caress my cheek. "How are you feeling, jagi?"
She nodded in reassurance, and I slowly stood up to call a nurse. She then told me that she would be calling the doctor.
Her expressions were so gentle, and she flashed me a questioning look. "You lost consciousness when you woke up the other day. Your pulse was so faint, I thought I'd lost you."
"Good afternoon," Doctor Yang walked inside the room, making her way to the other side of the bed, across from me. She eyed me, "May you help me sit her up?"
I did. She smiled at Ayumi, her gaze the way a mother would look at their child as she pulled on her stethoscope, "And let's just do our regular check-ups, alright? Take a breath."
It went on for a while. And when it was done, I turned to the doctor. "So.. when will you start the treatment?"
She raised a finger, "Good question."
"Later, we will be putting a heart monitor beside her bed so we could see how her pulse rate is doing. And we'll also be giving her some medicine," she explained. "She'll be given the medicine everyday. And the continuation on the treatment will depend on her body's cooperation."
Ayumi motioned me to hand her a phone, and I did.
'Will the medicine taste bad?'
Doctor Yang stayed quiet, and she smiled, "Don't worry, Ayumi. You won't taste anything. And also, I think you've got visitors outside. Let me call them for you." and with that, she walked outside of the room.
Her smile was forced. I knew it. And though Ayumi didn't trust easily - since she already did trust her; I knew she believed the doctor. But..
It was for her own good.
"Hello!" Jimin said in english, entering the room with a bouquet of flowers in his hands. He placed it on the bedside table. "Ayumi, how are you doing?"
"Jimin, you're too loud!" Hoseok scolded. "You might give Ayumi a migraine."
I cracked a small smile, "He gave me one."
I noticed that she was uneasy, so I handed her my phone. Her phone was left back in her home, where a relative voluntarily watched over the house.
"Hey, what's going on in that mind of yours?" Eri questioned, grabbing a chair from the side and sitting on it. "Is it another guy? If it is, who is it? Let me beat him up for you."
'I have no choice but to be replaced from being cheerleader,' she showed us the message. 'What will happen to practice?'
"Don't worry about that." Namjoon said. "You still have what, 2, or 3 months? I'm sure you'll be out of the hospital by the start of the intense practices. We're just warming up."
"That's right." Hoseok nodded. "Fighting, Ayumi!"
She smiled widely. And I couldn't help but smile, too. 'How's Dad?'
"I told him about your condition." I reassured. "And I assure you that he's going to be out of jail soon, and you'll be out of the hospital in no time!"
"Yup!" Jimin added. "And before you even know it, you'll be up and dancing again!"
We talked for about another hour, until Namjoon spoke up.
"Small question," he raised his hand. "What got her to lose consciousness? That's a pretty important topic."
I mentally cursed. But Namjoon was always practical - Ayumi had to know about what was happening. But to be fair, we didn't know much about everything, too.
"The doctors said because of stress." I replied, sighing. "And that her condition and diseases are acting up."
"Hold it," Eri stopped moving in her seat. "Diseases?"
I glanced at Ayumi for approval, and she smiled, nodding. Her smile was forced again. I saw through all of it now. "The same diseases Jimin mentioned the other day. Those are already 2 separate diseases."
Jimin frowned, his gaze lowered. "But she's still going strong, and that makes me admire her even more!" he grabbed the bouquet and handed them to her. "Here, Ayumi, I don't really know what your favourite flowers are, but I think roses fit you."
She smiled and giggled, and Jimin continued to say stupid and weird stuff to make her laugh. He seemed to really like her, that I couldn't help but smile, too.
"And say.. want a spoiler?" Eri chuckled, before flashing me a sneaky glance. "Yoongi's writing a song for you!"
I flashed her a glare. Okay, she did not need to say that. Ayumi's gaze darted from Jimin to me, and I rolled my eyes. "Yeah. But you see.. it's not finished yet."
"And he-"
She was cut off with a knock on the door. Doctor Yang walked inside, a clipboard in her hands. "Alright.. everyone, can you move so we can place the monitor a perfect distance from Ayumi?" a nurse walked inside, pushing a monitor.
"And we're gonna have to give her the medicine now." she sighed, and two more doctors came in after her.
As we stood up, I couldn't help but notice the terror on Ayumi's eyes.
"What's the matter?" I questioned, watching as the others exited the room. But I hesitated. Why did she look so.. scared?
"Sir, you need to leave." one of the doctors said, grabbing my hand as the other handed Doctor Yang an injection.
"What are you doing?" I demanded, as they started holding her down.
"Yoongi, you need to get out. Now." Doctor Yang instructed firmly. "She needs this inside her body."
I yanked my hand away. "She's scared of needles, and you're going to inject that into her every day? What the fuck are you doing?
She eyed me, "I'm saving her life."
I felt Ayumi's helpless gaze as the nurses pulled me out of the room. I saw her tears. She was so, so scared.
She was mute.
I couldn't hear her screams.
Her screams of pain and her screams of help as they injected the medicine in her.
And that made it worse.
