Please, do not fall

"Prince Robert?"

The maid started to tremble with the piece of paper in her hands. She could only be over thinking things, right?

The Queen would not be able to do such a thing, the Queen would not betray her best option to get her kingdom back, right?

Diana felt her legs move before she could even process what she was doing. She walked upstairs and walked to see if she noticed something away from normality. She wandered around the hall of the Princesses’ rooms.

Everything was quiet.

But when she turned to the other hall, taking a look at the Queens’ room, she noticed the noises. Painful groans.

“Oh, god” she whispered. She knew it was him, the Prince.

But how? How could she hurt such a strong and powerful warrior? She asked herself

She glanced inside the room. He was lying on the floor, his body shrunken.

The Queen was smiling “It is a shame, though” she knelt next to him as she crawled away “Such an handsome creature”

Diana quickly grabbed a lamp and quietly walked to the Queen, who had her back turned to her. She used all her strength to hit her in the head.

The Prince looked at her with a surprised, painful expression. The Queen’s body was now lying lifeless on the floor and Diana kneeling down to the Prince

“You need to leave, quickly” She grabbed him, still unsure about what she should do. She glanced at the broken cup and wine on the floor as she helped the Prince weakly getting up

“She poisoned you?” She worriedly asked, watching him holding his chest, groaning

“T-Thomas… I need to…” he weakly said

“No… you do not have time for that.” She glanced at him

“Hmmm” he groaned in pain, leaning to her

“Please, Prince Robert. I do not have the strength to carry you. Hold still, I’ll take you out of here” She started walking with him

“I-I can’t l-leave…” he whispered

“You will die, for god’s sake!” She snapped

“C-Cut me” He whispered, weakly

“What?!”

“L-Leave track of my blood…” He weakly said “She is together with M-Montagu and Leofrick. T-there are probably m-more in here.”

Diana looked at him, he was smart, but that would not be enough.

“That is not enough”

“Ahhh” he groaned “I know…” he whispered

She took a knife and held his arm. She glanced at him “I-I cannot do this”

He held her hand, trembling “You can” he helped her scratching his arm.

She held him to her, as his body was weakening each second. An idea was crossing her mind, but she did not think she had the time.

She glanced at him “Could you hold for a minute?”

He groaned “I-I do not have a chance this time… do I?” he whispered

That made her heart break into pieces.

No.

There was no way she would let him die.

She pushed him into a small room “Please keep awake. I won’t last a minute”

The Prince watched as she walked away, the pain in his body was unbearable. It had started from his throat to his stomach, but it was spreading now. It was pure torture. A lot worse than any sword cutting through him.

He didn’t know how long he was there, but he saw the maid quickly approaching him again

“Ok, everything is settled” she helped him up “Now… you need to come with me. I know someone who might help you” she whispered, holding him “Hold on, alive, ok?” she grabbed his face, sweaty, painful

“W-Why are you doing this?” he groaned as both slowly walked outside the Palace.

She was not able to carry him alone, he was getting heavier on her by each step. The poison was spreading. There was probably someone else around trying to kill him. She just hoped she was far away with him when the queen woke up

“Come on, Prince Robert. To that horse”

“Ahhh” he groaned, breathing heavily “I… c-can’t” His eyes were threatening to fall

She slapped him lightly “Yes, you can, for god’s sake!”

Weakly, with her help, they managed to get up the horse and run away from the Palace, from that place.

She kept holding him in her petite arms, they needed to hurry up. He was breathing heavily against her shoulder.

“What would you think if people said the Great Prince Robert, the most feared of the Continental kingdoms, was killed by a woman?” She kept talking to him, wanting to keep him awake

He laughed, between a cough, weakly, but said nothing.

“Keep awake” she slapped his face softly, but his eyes were heavier.

“Prince Robert, come on!” she snapped

He would let out a painful moan at each breath.

The horse was running fast, she just hoped they would get there soon.

His breath was slower, his consciousness was drifting away.

She lifted her head to watch her way. She sighed when she finally spotted the little house, hidden between the forest that lead to the highest point in the mountain.

“We are getting there, Prince, please do not fall now”

She caressed his face, her arms never letting him go. The sight of him like this broke her heart. He did not deserve this. There was not possibly any man who did.

She was not sure why she was doing it, she just knew he could not die.

Heeey!

Still a cliffhanger!

What will happen?

Will the prince survive?

Will someone go after them?

Who is that person Diana is taking him to?
