In school
They taught
About distances
Long ones. Short ones
Ones that we could measure
Alas! I couldn't measure this distance
The distance between us.
You sat in front seat
and me on second.

~

My eyes
ran like squirrels
on your scraggy back
kissing invisibly every inch of your skin
and a bit of your hair
Distance.

~

Distance.
The distance between us.
The distance between me waiting
and you never looking back
the unfortunate distance,
our distance.

~

Only if you'd let
our eyes meet once
you would have known
of my heart and its songs,
that I secretly play all alone,
waiting for the distance to dissolve
in nothingness and void
but it remained frozen
forever

~

You and I
We never talked
We never sat together
We never joined hands and counted stars
And I would look at you for hours
Words melting on my tongue
Eyes holding back the tears
for years and years for
the unforgivable
distance
to end

~ Mister August
