Your POV

Your feet trace the lines of the sidewalk as the wind tangles itself in your hair. Just down the path, you see Zoe in a blurry haze. Her top's tucked into her denim skirt and her short blonde hair is a skillfully tousled mess. She finally notices you and she's so excited that her sunglasses fall from the top of her head onto her nose. You laugh as you run up to her and you both jump into each other's arms.

"I'm so happy to see you!" She cheers sweetly, still hugging you. You feel exactly the same, however, there's a pinch of guilt mixed in.

The whole Alfie situation must've been horrible and confusing. To have him break up with her and then ask to have her back in a matter of days must've pulled her heartstrings in so many directions. You're unsure whether she took him back, or if she even knows why he broke up with her. Seeing Zoe was something you wanted to avoid, but every now and then you've got to take risks. Besides, you don't want to lose a friend as special as her.

"What's been happening with you?" Zoe rattles your shoulders, spilling all your thoughts and making your mind blank.

"Quite a lot actually," you smile because for once, it's true. "I've got a boyfriend." You slur giddily and start walking.

"What?" She squeals. You raise your eyebrows at her.

"Are you really that surprised?" You chuckle and she laughs back.

"Of course not," she looks ahead and puts her sunglasses on, thinking. "Who is it?" She sharply turns to you, making you almost fall over. You quickly grab a nearby bus sign and push yourself back onto your feet. Zoe looks at you sheepishly and you jokingly glare back.

"You've got to guess." You tease.

Zoe's entire face droops, instantly hating you.

"This is not fair." She complains before zoning out for the next 30 seconds.

She's so lost in thought that she almost walks into a door. Should you touch her? Poke her maybe? Or will that cause her to malfunction?

"I got it!" She claps her hands as loudly as a balloon popping. Everyone in the nearby area flinches. You think you even saw someone drop their cup of coffee. "It's Daniel." She says enthusiastically, her hands balled into fists. You're surprised she got it. Maybe she knows you better than you think. She did get an earful about Nick - the first time, not the relapse - and any other guys in between. She knows what you hate, so she must know what you like.

"Correct." You breathe out with a grin. Zoe holds her hands over her chest and her face gets all smitten.

"I'm so glad, Dan would treat you so well." She pats your back as you smile to the ground, agreeing with her wholeheartedly. "So, where are we meeting F/N?" She questions.

"Outside the ice cre-" Zoe interrupts with a squeal.

"Sorry," she places her hands in front of her mouth. "I'm just never gonna get over you and Dan." She looks at you with a stupid grin on her face. You blush, rub your forehead and laugh before continuing.

"We're meeting F/N outside the ice cream parlour."

"Right," Zoe chirps. "The one just up there?" She points to the minimalistic corner shop. Through the window and the door, you can see trays of colourful ice cream.

"Yep, that's the one." You reply, your mouth watering a little. The hot weather makes you want an ice cream a million times more. You would probably trade your first born for one of those ice creams right now.

As you and Zoe walk closer to the shop, you notice F/N on the other side of the road, leaning against one of the shop's outside walls. She instantly sees the both of you and her face lights up with a toothy smile. F/N pushes herself off the wall and starts running across the street.

She gets hit.

Nobody saw it coming. Nobody saw the car. You didn't even hear it. All there is to hear is tires screeching and an awful thump.

The world has come to a halt but, it's also turning seven times as fast. You're dizzy and your legs could cave in if you took a step. The silver car has come to a complete stop, it's front hovering over F/N's legs.

Without thought, you rush towards her. You body gathering the courage to move without breaking apart. You kneel over her and try to hear her breathing but your unstoppable heartbeat is too loud. Then you hold your hand above her face but no sensation tingles your skin.

You let out a sob before clasping your hand over your mouth; your quivering lip and rapid breaths beating against your palm.

"Pause." Your throat manages to choke out.

You quickly stand up and pace around. The tears running out of their prison and your throat threatening to suffocate you. Placing your hands on the back of your head you try to calm yourself but the shock is forbidding you to do so.

Should you just reverse it all? Would that be selfish? Unfair? Is it against the world? Everything happens for a reason, but not this. This shit doesn't happen and it doesn't happen like it has. It isn't bruised, scuffed and lifeless on the centre of the road.

Your mind told you not to do it, but everything else screamed the opposite.

"Rewind."

In flowing movements, the car travels backwards, the birds fly in reverse and F/N stands upright, returning to her original position against the wall.

Everything is the same as before. That's what you'll keep telling yourself.

Dan's POV

I steady the several pizza boxes in my arms as I pace up the steps to the apartment. I fiddle the keys into the lock and push the door open. As I step in, I glower at the more stairs in front of me before closing the door and trudging up to the kitchen.

As usual, I stub my toe on the glass door that separates the hallway and kitchen. I'm so ready to move into that new apartment. I don't like having a throbbing toe and feeling like an idiot simultaneously. Regardless, I put the hot boxes on the table before opening one hungrily. As I go to take a bite, I hear a strange shuffle behind me. I hastily spin around to see Polly carrying a bundle of rope. She stops and we lock eyes.

I go to speak, to ask why she's here and how she got in, but she sweeps my legs and I fall. My head collides with the counter and before my eyes fully shut, Polly places one end of the rope around my legs.
