Johnny's POV

"Mind if I give you company?" I asked, and she nodded as she turned her back on me, her sapphire blue eyes on the breathtaking scenery. The Lumino Crystals stayed dark tonight, their glow absent from the cavern ceiling, but the Phosphoros shone brightly, filling Slugterra's ceiling with spots and spots of light, illuminating the ceiling, their lights shining down over all over Slugterra. I walked over to her, careful not to slip on the tiles, and sat next to Ally, who barely seemed to register the fact I was there. She stared at the scenery, her raven black hair falling down in waves around her face, the tips of her hair barely brushing her mid back. Her sapphire blue eyes stared at the view below, the eggplant purple mushroom tree tops smooth and soft under the light's gaze. It was peaceful, almost too peaceful, like something was wrong.

And something was wrong.

More specifically, with Ally. Ever since that distress call, she's been quiet, she hasn't been sleeping, she spends more time training, I spent more hours stitching and bandaging the slashes on Ally's scar ridden back in the dead of the night despite her protests, worried to death she'll rip them. She spent more hours away from home, with the Shadow Clan, training in their cruel, heartless ways.

"Ally, what's going on with you?" I finally asked, breaking the serene silence as I turned towards her. She sighed as she turned towards me, her sapphire blue eyes saddened with all the emotions that plagued all of us, but her the most these past few months: agony, grief, sadness, anger.

"I'm fine, Valdezi, it's just that...that incident really told me how important this battle is. It can't go wrong, and if it does...we're doomed, Valdezi. Not just us, everyone in Slugterra is doomed." She admitted, the words spilling out of her mouth, and with every word that spilled from her mouth, I could feel her breaking just a little bit more, the words weighing down on her as tears welled up in her eyes.

"And I just can't lose anyone else, especially after...after..." She looked away from me, trying to keep her tears away, as her voice shattered. Once again, she was trying to lock up her emotions and her grief, trying to deal with it alone as always, ever since Dojang Grotto. She couldn't even say her name.

"I know, Ally, I know." I murmered, and she scooted further away from me, quickly wiping a few tears from her eyes, thinking I wouldn't notice. My heart broke to see her this way, to see the brave, selfless, carefree leader of the Defensores Antris trying to hide the tears streaming down her face, her nose burning red. As long as we have been friends, she's always been carefree, with a light hearted, childlike demeanour unless she needed to be mature, rarely brought to anger, her fear seeming to be non existent.

"Come here, kid." I muttered sympathetically as I moved closer to her, enveloping her small body in a tight hug. And she melted into my embrace, her quiet, heartbreaking sobs shaking her body. I rubbed her back gently and comfortingly in silence, neither of us uttering a word, all the words spoken through the air of the night. And as she cried and cried over the events that happened these few months, one single though echoed through my mind.

If we lose, all our suffering would be in vain.

"Johnathan, are you feeling alright?" Junjie asked worriedly, interrupting the flashback as our mechas travelled through the wood. The long, winding path we took was hidden by mushroom trees and bushes, so we found a lot of slugs escaping High Plains. We picked up whatever stray slugs we could that were fleeing from High Plains Cavern, placing them in our backpacks. As for Junjie, I ran into him in a burning building earlier, saving people. He helped me save a few people, and we rounded them up at the clearing Cyan mentioned, asking for help to protect the people in the clearing via Heroes Network as we went back and forth from it, bounding through the woods on his wolf and my emu mecha.
