Shang's POV

"哥哥? (Brother?)" A small voice whimpered as tiny hands shook my sleeping body, the sudden motion slowly bringing me back to consciousness. I recognised the voice of my younger sister, her meek and shy voice always one he had to strain his ears to hear when they went to the marketplace. He squinted at her, his eyes still drooping as he saw her figure by his bedside, a red soft toy in her hands.

"Lily, 它已经很晚了,你为什么不睡觉? (Lily, it's late, why aren't you asleep?)" I asked tiredly as I rubbed my eyes, turning on the lamp on my side to see a terrified girl looking back at him. The tiredness faded out of me as I snapped awake at the sight of his scared little sister. Her gingerbread brown eyes glistened with tears, a shimmer casting all over them from the light that peeked through the window. She kept quiet, pressing her lips together tightly, as if any word that slipped from her lips would cause her to shatter.

"你有另一个噩梦?(Did you have another bad dream?)" I asked concernedly, getting up and carrying her onto the bed to sit beside me, and she immediately went to hug me, her body shaking. I wrapped a comforting arm around her, taking my blanket and wrapping it around her. We just stayed there for a while as she calmed down, her ragged breaths slowing into a regular cycle, steadying. And finally, after a while, she gave me a small, but confirming nod of her head.

"你想谈谈吗?(Do you wanna talk about it?)" I asked, and she sniffed, snuggling closer to me as she started to ramble.

"我们被东方冠军追赶。但他不是东部冠军。他的眼睛是红的,他的牙齿尖尖,他是个怪物!我们跑了,跑了,你绊倒了。和- (We were chased by the Eastern Champion. But he wasn't the Eastern Champion. His eyes were red, and his teeth were pointy, he was a monster! We ran and ran, and you tripped. And-)" She cut herself off, her voice getting more terrified until she halted. An eerie silence filled the room, causing me to shiver as I waited expectantly on her words. Her mouth opened, but her voice was much weaker.

"他...他得到了你。(He...he got you.)" The temperature of the room plummeted at her words, sending shivers down my own spine, running down my arms. I subconsciously reached for the blanket, but I stopped myself from taking it off her. It was the same dream she had gotten the night before, and the night before that. Ever since the new Eastern Champion had been crowned, a boy named Junjie who was his age, Lily had been getting the exact same nightmare. A monstrous, twisted version of the Eastern Champion chasing the two of them, and he got me every time, seconds before she woke up, running to my room.

"我会永远为你而来, Lily。别担心。没有怪物可以靠近我们,我会确保这一点。(I'm always gonna be here for you, Lily. Don't worry. No monster can even get near us, I'll make sure of that.)" I reassured her, hugging her tighter. She hugged me back, wrapping both of her little arms around me, burying her face into my shirt. I frowned as my fingers fiddled with her disarray jet black hair absentmindedly, feeling the cold sweat dampening her hair, trickling down her neck. He had heard rumours, but he never believed them. Rumours of someone who was born with abilities to see things others couldn't, that if someone was related to a person like this, their lives would be nothing but hardship and loss, as long as they kept the person in them.

My eyes wandered and found a silver sliver of light, in contrast with the darkened room. I quickly brushed my previous thoughts away, an idea formulating in my head as I looked towards the curtain, catching a glimpse of balls of light. I faked a small smile as I looked back at Lily, gesturing to the window.
