June

Everything Day has said to me doesn't add up. Not remotely.

I should call his parents. I can't remember why Day gave me his mother's number but I have it.

I press the call button once I get my hands to stop shaking. I'm worried I won't like what I find out.

"Hello June." She says.

"Uh, hi, I just wanted to tell you that Day told me he's adopted."

"Oh I'm so glad he told you the truth. You know ever since we got him from Chicago it's been really just a struggle for him to make friends he can trust."

"Wait, what?" I ask. "You adopted him from Chicago?" I think I might throw up.

"Yeah, oh, did you not know that? I'm sorry maybe I've said too much. Bye June." She hangs up on me.

Wow. I should invite him over. I have a plan. If he's truly Daniel and I can't get him to come clean this way then I don't think I'll ever forgive him for it. I send him a text.

Come over. Now.

My mom's talking wakes me up. She has the most calming voice.

"June is in her room." She says.

"Thank you." Day. Daniel? I don't know, but I think I'm about to find out.

Day knocks on my door.

"Come in." I say. I'm laying across my comfy chair. He walks in slowly and sits at my desk.

"What did you need?" He asks.

"I wanted to tell you something about my past." I say. He looks scared. Daniel?

"What is it?" He asks hesitantly.

"So basically I had this best friend when I was little. I was kind of into him I guess, I don't know." I say.

"What's the point of this?" Wow. If this is him he's really become a bad person.

"So one day I got news that my best friend and his entire family died in a car wreck. It literally broke me." I pull the treehouse key out of under my shirt. "This key that I always wear was the key to our tree house. It has both our initials on it."

"I just thought I'd tell you that story." I look into his eyes closely. "It broke me when he died. If I'm being honest you kind of look like him."

"Anyways. When the two of us first met I was worried I only liked you because you resembled my friend. Now I think it's for real." I smile awkwardly. Day looks at me pitifully.

"My dog is a service dog because of what happened. Ollie!" I call. He runs in happily.

Tears start to roll down my face. Day would have said something by now if he were Daniel. I know it. Daniel is dead.

It feels as new as the day it happened.

Everything seems so fuzzy. I can't focus on anything in particular. I hear the door to my room shut and by the time my vision clears Day is long gone.

A/N: so this chap is short and late and I suck. Thanks for reading! Vote and comment!
