Will

I was at my parents' house for dinner, three days after my argument with Olivia. She still hasn't texted me or called me back since our blow up. She was right, sadly. I was a coward and I remembered my words all those years ago.

I was a disgusting and vile person.

"What's wrong, hun?" Mom asked, gesticulating to my half-eaten plate of dinner. "Are you not hungry?"

I shook my head. "No."

Kim kept her mouth shut about what was really wrong. I was thankful for my sister, but she took Olivia's side in the whole ordeal. I was the asshole and I was the one in the wrong. Too bad she took the right side.

Joining us for dinner was Ahren, Ameliah and Olivia. Olivia didn't even look at me. Not that I didn't blame her. I couldn't even look at my face in the mirror without feeling regret. Olivia kept glancing at her phone, texting someone. It wasn't Kim and it clearly wasn't me since we weren't speaking to each other.

My blood boiled at the thought of another man in her life. Whoever it was, he wasn't good enough for her. Was she seeing someone? Kim wouldn't tell me. All she would comment is "it's none of your business."

The doorbell to their house rang and Mom looked at Dad. His dark brows rose.

"Were you expecting someone, Remi?" He asked, getting up from the table.

Mom shook her head, taking a sip of her white wine. "No. Were you?"

He shook his head and opened the door. My stomach instantly dropped, and bile rose to my throat. At the door was Abbey with her bag and bright smile. I stood up and felt my mouth agape as I looked at her. Why was she here?

She ran over and flung herself in my arms, my hands on her hips out of habit and her legs wrapped around my waist. She kissed me excitedly, and I kissed back, smiling through our kiss. I let her down and grinned at her as she sat beside me. I was so happy to see her.

I looked over at Olivia who was glaring at her potatoes, avoiding eye contact with me. Flashbacks of her lips on mine and her naked body in front of me invaded my mind. I pushed them to the back burner and focused on Abbey before I started feeling more regret.

"Why are you home?" I asked as she pulled away from my lips.

"It's reading week!" She said, grinning. "I wanted to surprise you and not mention me coming back soon."

I smiled and kissed her forehead. Kim shot me a glare and nodded toward Olivia. She mouthed, "don't be an asshole" and shook her head. I wasn't trying to be...I was just excited to see Abbey.

After dinner, Abbey helped Mom do the dishes and I watched TV with Olivia's dad, Ahren. The guy was intimating. He radiated power and wealth and made anyone put their tail between their legs. His brown hair was styled neatly, and his faded blue jeans and white T-shirt were neat with not a single stain on them. I felt underdressed in my grey sweatpants and black shirt.

Ahren looked at me and squinted. "I don't know what your intentions are, but I'd rather you steer clear of my daughter." He said lowly. "She does not need to get her heartbroken by you."

I glanced into the kitchen and saw Abbey laughing at something Mom said. Mom bumped her with her hip and Abbey grinned.

"I don't know what intentions you mean, Ahren." I whispered.

"Please." He scoffed. "She tells her mother everything and in turn, her mother tells me everything. I am an intelligent man, William, and I will not be treated like an idiot."
