Josiah hoped she would turn up for choir practice. He really hoped. He left way before James asked because he was getting tired of his brothers company.

As the choir members arrived one by one to start their vocal exercises, he sat at the back, fondling the diamond earring. He never let it out of his sight.

Last night, he had been discussing with his father and he had questions to ask, including if it was actually healthy that a human has captured you in ways you don't understand, how is it that she is on his mind?

Why, does he now feel the need to study her face, those curve of her eyes. In the few weeks, he had already torn almost half the pages of his new sketchbook trying to get the exact shape of those eyes, while Usher's let it burn played from his speakers. He was home alone

This is crazy, he thought. And she wasn't looking like she was having it, trying to being his friend.

His head snapped up when he had a male voice yelling.

"Take a look at the wall clock. Read the time" The man snapped.

"Um, it's 2:00" Her voice was shaky.

"What time were you supposed to be here, Damilola?"

"One forty five"

"So, you conveniently strolled in when you are aware that you're five minutes past the graced 10 minutes, abi?"

"I'm sorry, Mfon it won't happen again. My mum sent me-"

"I don't want to hear your excuses, just go and stand at the back. So before we start today, I wanted to ask the meaning of the rubbish you people sang last week"

No one spoke.

"Oh. No words abi. Try that one again and see. Pastor Darius was just shouting at me last week. Try it and some of you will be eliminated. Ehen, late comer, do your vocal exercises while the rest of you learn the lyrics"

Josiah stifled a giggle. The man was actually really harsh.

If Damilola was here, then she must have followed her, right?

He looked everywhere, but she wasn't there. He would have to wait till they went on a break so that he could ask Damilola.
"Common stop that. Hello Chidinma, why are you sounding like an injured goat. If you can't do the ad-libs then fine."

They sang the chorus .

"Just hold it right there. Altos, your voices have gone missing right? I didn't think so. From the top"

This choir practice was a comedy show. The chorister and his lanky frame contributing 90% to making it an actual comedy.

"All of you should just take a break because it is not on top your matter that I will die this afternoon"

******

She knew he would be there.

So instead of walking into the Youth Church, she went to the children's church, against Dami's wished. No one would be there, and she would stay there for a while.

Only a while.

**********

The Choir lasted longer than he expected. When it was over, he made over to Damilola, who was in conversation with another person, before he called her, someone pulled him.

Chidinma.

He sighed inwardly. The girl was short, and her hair was in an Afro. When she smiled, her dimples sunk deeply.
