Things That Broke Us

Whenever I think about you I hurt even more. I hear your name and there are tears in my eyes, and it is because you are the beautifully tragic memory that I seek to erase from my mind.

Do you still think about me as much as I do? Do you remember my name?

Two months later

Josiah hated November. November brought the beginning of winter, where degrees got lower, the sky turned dark at 5pm and the German Christmas markets that choked the city centre. It was that time of the year but years had gone by and Josiah lost the excitements of these seasons.

Ever since he got back his head had been in places he didn't want them to, he was back to seeing his therapist twice a week and on a dosage of anti depressants. These things couldn't really fix the state of his mind. He wondered why they tried so hard. The breakdown would come and those drugs do nothing.

His lecture ended at 1pm today. He sat by one of the bookshelves, waiting for Thabo so they could work on a deadline that was approaching. That's what he's been doing to keep his mind off everything that's happened over the past two months. Work. He found part time work at Curry's PC, not because he needed the money, but because he needed to keep himself preoccupied. He studied during his spare time. Even resorted to doing all nighters at the library. Just whenever he permitted his mind to, he thought about her, how she fares, if she still thinks about him, or not. Two months could be enough to forget about someone.

The transparent door of the study room opens and Thabo comes in with two Starbucks cups.

"Thanks man" He says. He needed something to warm him up. He took a sip of the hot chocolate. The first sip burned his tongue, but he didn't mind at all.

"I got you" Thabo replied, before taking off his jacket. He was as tall as Josiah, but light skinned, light brown eyes and really skinny. Thabo has been with him ever since he arrived at uni, and has been very understanding. He was a great friend.

"Nah, but honestly, thank you so much, I don't think I could have pulled through"

Thabo patted him on the back. "It's okay, what are friends for man" he brought out his laptop. "Let's just study for now, you don't really need to think about things that broke you. Just focus"

"You're right" He replied. At a point, he had to get a textbook from the library, and upon opening the study room door, he had bumped into Folasade.

Fola was dressed in all black, a black turtleneck, trousers, and black knee-high boots. She had on her middle part long weave and she has makeup on her face. She looked really good, and thick. He wasn't going to deny that. Fola had an amazing body.

"Hey Josiah, wow I wasn't expecting to see you" She smiled. He smiled back, her smile had always been contagious.

"I can say the same, how are you doing?"

"I'm great, I just finished a lecture. Thought I'd chill around for a bit before I leave" She said. "Are you busy?"

He nodded. "I just came out to get a textbook, I'll be here for quite a while"

"So you still love pulling those all nighters? I remember our study dates together. Good times" She gave a small smile, folding her arms. He noticed that she had a tiny nose ring.

He felt uncomfortable having a normal conversation with her after over a year. The last time they spoke like this was the day she had decided to break up with him. He was going to ask why she came acting all nice to him now and expected that he act like that never happened.
