Chapter 32 : P OR NO P

"Maryam please hurry up. We are already late" Abdulmajeed hissed.

"I can't find my flipflop"

"Which one is flipflop again? Abeg just wear anything."

"Oh. I've found it." She squeaked after checking her room for the up tenth time.

"Thank God. Lets go."

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La Ilaha Illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahi Alhamd. (Allah is the most great, none has the right to be worshiped but Allah. Allah is the most great, and to Allah belongs all praise.)

They recited repeatedly as they drove to the eid ground. At the women's side Waheeda met her sisters in law while Abdulmajeed met his brothers on the men's side.

After the Eid prayer, they posed for a few family pictures and stopped to greet a few familiar faces.

On their way home they made stops at different houses. First one was to collect the Nigerian Rice cakes (masa) they ordered, then to collect the natural drinks they ordered. The last stop was the collect fried rice and small chops from Waheeda's favourite catering place in Kano.

"Wow. Just wow. Is there anything just anything at all you prepared for this eid?" Abdulmajeed asked when he realised she has ordered a complete Eid food package.

She rolled her eyes. "Yes ofcourse. Plenty. Can't you see."

"See what?"

"The money I spent. Duhhh!"

"Ofcourse I can see that. It's soooo vivid. And where is the money I gave you when you refused to give me list of what you needed and insisted on doing the grocery shopping yourself?"

"It alllll in the dishes I ordered." She smiled.

"Wow. Just wow. So its still basically my money. Don't wives usually sleep late at night and wake up so early preparing Eid meals? I guess some just pay others to do it."

She nodded unbothered.

"I can't believe I cleaned the whole house before I went to bed yesterday, thinking you will wake up working hard busying yourself in the kitchen."

"Awwn you did?. You're so sweet. But why does it sound like you're regretting?"

He just glared at her and continued driving.

After a while he spoke. "May Allah guide you and bless you for me."

"Ameen. And May He in His infinite mercy protect you, bless you and guide you for me." She replied and looked at him with her sparkling eyes.

He pecked her hand and held it in his. "Gosh I love you despite your sudden laziness. People can do anything for money these days.... even making Eid food for sale. Can't say I'm not impressed. But I will be looking forward to your delicious dishes next eid. I have had some of the best foods in my entire life this Ramadan. I was just a bit disappointed when you said you've already paid and ordered dishes because I was really anticipating some Heeda special. But all is well." He shrugged.
