New Island

Percy Pov

        I looked up islands that Annabeth and I could maybe hang out on, and found one call Mako Island. "Annabethhhhhhhh," she looked up from the book she was reading, and made a big show of rolling her eyes at me. I gave my  best trouble maker grin. "Wanna go for a swim?" Before she could respond, I grabbed her and jumped out of the window, and made a cushion out of water that carried us out to the ocean. "PERRRRRCY!" Annabeth squealed. I laughed and turned into a merman. I started to get used to it, and it became a second nature. Annabeth quickly turned into a mermaid and I sped us to Mako. I sent out a underwater radar to see if there were any secret underwater caves. I soon found one, and sped us even faster, causing more squeals from Annabeth. I reached the cave and swam in slowly. I didn't sense any threats, but I didn't want to be caught off guard. I swam up to the surface. It was inside of a tall volcano, and had a small ledge covered in sand. I turned human again, and climbed on the ledge. I was bigger than what it looked like from the water. I looked back into the small pool. I caught a glimpse of shells that are shaped like combs. I shook of the thought. "Come one Wise Girl. It's safe." She surfaced, and she looked angry. "If you know what's good for you, you will not do that again." I laughed and picked her up bridal style. She changed back into a human and wiggled out of my arms. "Poseidon said that you had some power over water. Let's work on that before you kill me."  I picked her up over my shoulders and plopped her down next to the water. I showed her how to make a small stream of water float up into the air and how to keep it there. I showed her how to make an air bubble under water. She seemed to get everything pretty quickly, and soon we were laughing and messing around on the sand, fighting with water and getting soaked. Then I stopped. I felt out again. A faint feeling of the sea, but not Greek like. I uncapped Riptide and moved closer to the water. I saw faint silhouettes of mermaid like creatures. They shimmered then disappeared, leaving me with a sense of worry. I turned to Annabeth and saw that she saw it too. "We need to go" I nodded and summoned a sprout of Water to carry us up and out of the volcano. I didn't want to go near that entrance of something was hiding in there. I used the water to carry us about a mile away from the island, then carefully lowered us. Annabeth and I turned (when I say turned I mean they turned into a human or a mermaid/ merman depending on which form they are in) and swam back to the house.

Lyla pov.

   We left the moon pool early this morning to get breakfast at the The Ocean Cafe. Serena kept making googly eyes at David while I kept an eye on Zack. He was hanging out with Cam and Evie. I stood up and walked over. "Hey Zack." He looked up and shook his head. "Not now Lyla. I'm busy." I sent a quick glare at him. "Fine" I walked back to my table. "Lets go." Nixie nodded, but Serena didn't pay any attention. "Earth to Serena!" She turned around and glared at me. "You guys go ahead. I'll catch up later." With that she stood up and walked over to David. "I don't know why she wants the pod back. She seems perfectly happy here." Nixie snapped. "Leave her be. She misses her sister. She deserves some time to herself." I started to walk away. I ended up at the beach. I looked around to make sure no one was watching, and jumped in. I got my tail back and I started to speed of to Mako, Nixie not far behind me.

I slowed down in front of the under water entrance. I heard laughing. Nixie caught up with me. I pointed into the cave. We looked in, and there was the boy and the girl laying on the sand shooting water at each other. Bothel were soaked, but neither of then had their tails. Then the guy stopped. He pulled out his sword and looked in our direction. I quickly turned invisible, hoping Nixie did the same. "We need to go." The girl said. The guy nodded. Then the water shot up and out of the volcano. I quickly swam in so that they couldnt see the water moving. I said I'm down on the ledge and waited for a couple of minutes, making sure they wern't near. I turned visible, and looked around. "Nixie, we have a problem" "Well Duh! Those people were in the moon pool!" "We need to tell Serena." "Tell me what?" I looked over at Serena. "Well finally! Done making googly eyes at David?" "Nixie!" I looked over at Serena, who was a bright red. "The boy and girl we saw yesterday were in the Moon pool." Serena gasped. "We need to find out who they are!" She gushed. I nodded. "Before when we saw them they said something about a monster. Maybe we should ask Retia (I think that is how you spell her name) she might have an idea." Nixie and Serena nodded in agreement. "Let's go."

    When we got to the house, we found Retia in the grotto. "We have a few questions to ask you." She looked up from what she was reading. " I may be of help." We sat down and told her about the boy and the girl. She seemed puzzled, and after we finished, she spent a few moments with her eyes closed, thinking. "I have heard of legends, that there were other mermaids that had to do with Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. But I don't recall any of them that said these mermaids had more powers than us, or could turn human." "What could they be then?" I asked. "I don't know what to tell you girls. Possibly try making friends with them and getting their secret out that way."  I nodded. That's what we did with Zack. Well sort of. "Well we better find them." I stood up and walked out of the grotto, and out of the house. I looked behind me, but Nixie and Serena weren't there. I shrugged. They probably stayed to talk about it more. I started to walk in the direction of their house. Maybe they fell in the Moon pool during a special moon, and got more powers. Or they had a potion of some sort. After about 15 minutes of thinking, and getting lost, I ran into them. Literally. "Ouch! Look where you are going!" "You ran into us!" I recognize the voice and looked up to the boy and the girl. I stood up, and brushed off the dirt. Behind them, there were about 7 other people snickering. I stuck out my hand. "I'm Lyla. Sorry." They boy looked skeptical, but he shook it. "Percy. Sorry too. We shouldn't have been stopped in the middle of the side walk." I laughed, but got death glares from the blonde. "Annabeth." She said. Percy started to point to different people. "That's Hazel," he said pointing at a girl with curly hazelnut colored hair. "Frank," a muscular boy next to Hazel holding her hand. "Leo," I looked over at a scrawny elf looking boy holding a girl's hand. The girl had carmel brown hair, and big brown eyes.  "Calypso, and over there, is Jason and Piper" a guy who looked like a blonde superman, and a girl with dark brown hair waved. "Lastly, over there is Nico." He pointed over to a pale thin, dark haired boy. "Hi," I said waving. "We're going to the beach. You can come of you want." Hazel said. "Sure. I don't have a swim suit with me so I can't go in the water. She nodded. They started to go to the beach. It was a cooler day for Australia, around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, most people would be indoors, in a hot tub. So the beach was pretty much empty, which made me happy. If they some how got me wet, I wouldn't have a huge audience. "Do you live here? We are just visiting for a while and we just got her yesterday. Is this a good beach." I forgot Hazel was right next to me."Oh yeah. I do live here. Yeah this is a really good beach. Most of the time it's filled, but today it's cooler so." "This is cool?" Percy laughed. "In Australia it is." I shook my head and sighed. "It'll take a few days to get used to. How long are you staying?"  He turned to Annabeth for an answer. "About a year." Percy's eyes widened. "A year? I thought this was a vacation!" He kissed her. I coughed, and he looked over at me with some lopsided grin. "Sorry" he said laughing. They put down towels and an extra one for me. I thanked them, and sat down. "I'm going to go for a swim. Annabeth?" Percy pulled her along into the water. "Don't mind him, Percy is like a 5 year old in a 18 year old body." Piper said, sitting in front of me. "Me, Nico, Frank and Leo are going to join them." Piper nodded, and the rest of the boys went off into the water. "You guys should meet my friends, do you guys have a phone I can use?" Piper nodded and pulled a phone out. Retia has been showing us lately how these work. I called the phone at the house. Serena picked up, and I told her to come to the beach. She said her and Nixie would be there in 5 minutes. "Thanks," I said handing Piper her phone back. "Nixie and Serena will be her in about five minutes." That's when I saw a blue streak in the water, but Percy was with Annabeth and the guys. Zack. "What is it?" Hazel asked, worry in her eyes. She started to turn around."Oh nothing. I just saw a quick flashy fish. H-it's gone now." Shoot. I almost said he. Hazel gave me a weird look, but shook it off and continued talking with Calypso.  I looked off in the distance, hoping Nixie and Serena would come soon. Piper tapped on my shoulder. "Is that them?" I looked to where she was pointing. "Yep." I got up and walked over to them. "Found them" I whispered. They nodded. I introduced everyone, them they boys and Annabeth came up soaking wet. "Hey, I'm Percy." He held out his wet hand. "I'm Serena and this is Nixie, we are huge germaphobes." He nodded and pulled his hand back. Once they got acquainted, we say down and started to talk. But the peace didn't last. Leo shook a bottle of coke, then opened it. Spraying sticking, wet soda all over us.
