Quinn

"Quinn?" My mom said my name hesitantly. "We have to go."

I had cried for four hours.

Straight.

I was so close.

If I had been in human form....

'Leia?' I asked.

She was prowling back and forth, angry at the world. 'Go. We'll get locked up if we don't. Then we won't be able to find our mate.'

'Hmm.' I responded.

"Quinn. Now." She said.

I got up and helped her walk down the stairs.

She took my face in her hands and kissed my forehead. "You'll be ok."

Tears started to well up in my eyes again and she pulled me into a hug.

Once I calmed down we got into my dad's old minivan and made our way to the pack house.

When we arrived I received glares and looks of pity but we walked on until we stood in front of the council.

The Alpha, his parents, The Gamma and The Beta all stared down at me wickedly.

As my parents and Skylar took a seat in the stands I stood straighter and stared back with all the hatred I could muster up.

"Quinn. Lovely to see you again." The Alpha purred.

I didn't respond, scared that I might say something feral.

I could be executed for such treason.

"So you already know the crime that was committed." He said.

"Actually no. I didn't go over the boundary so I see no reason to have gathered the whole council today." I said.

"But you almost crossed the border. Intentionally. Therefore almost exposing us." The Alpha.

"Almost doesn't exist. It's either you did or you didn't." I said. "I didn't."

He chuckled. "You're unmated, right? The usual punishment would be to throw you in the cellar for fourteen days."

I didn't respond so he continued.

"But you're going away in a few days so that's not an option." He said. "So house arrest for four days."

Leia growled. 'First our mate and now our freedom.'

Her rage was beggining to get to me and I started to feel angry too.

"Those are not very good things to think nor say Quinn." The Alpha said. "You're dismissed."

I bared my teeth and was silent the entire car ride.

'When our mate finds out about this I hope he kills them all.' Leia growled. 'Starting with that big-headed Alpha.'

'Leia you shouldn't say such things when they can hear you or they'll silence you.' I told her.

'Then let's become rogue. Out the window, right now.' She said, urging me to give her control. 'We can leave and come back with our mate to make their lives hell.'

I honestly considered it for second, looking towards the window. 'No. I won't leave Mom.'

She curled into a ball. 'I respect your decision. But let me know when you get tired of this.'

I laid backwards on my bed. If I had just gotten a little closer I could have been fully immersed in his scent.

If I hadn't been in wolf form I might've been able to meet him.

I stared at the ceiling, imagining the back of his head.

His brown hair had looked so soft. Like you could fall asleep in it.

I found myself imagining what meeting him would have felt like.

I would tap on his shoulder and ask if they needed any help.

He would turn around and we would lock eyes. He would realize that I was his mate and would nod his head.

I would laugh and change the tire in less than thirty seconds. As I was working I would ask them where they were heading.

And he would tell me what I already knew or what I hoped was true.

He would say. "I'm going home. Not too far from Elmhurst College."

And I would smile, dusting off my hands and say. "I'll be heading that way in a few days."

He would smile as the other man got into the car. "I hope to see you there."

Then he would take me into his arms and give me my first kiss.

Which I had saved especially for him.

It was romantic.

It was worth waiting for.

It was...

It was...

It was a dream.

I blinked my eyes, waking up.

Cruel world. Cruel people in the world.

Why couldn't my dream be a reality?

Why do I have to be so unlucky?

Tears started to fall from my eyes in spite of my anger.

'Leia?'

'Yes?'

'Our mate is human, isn't he?' I asked her.

'Yes.'

I knew it was true before I asked.

It had to be the only reason he hadn't sensed my prescence. Why he hadn't come to find me. Why he was able to just get in that truck and drive off without hesitation.

I'll have to protect him. If people find out that he's human he'll be listed.

As werewolves all know that's the law. If your mate is human you are to be listed and killed if seen on site.

But it's taken me this long to find him I couldn't.

'When we find our mate. We will go rouge and we will return to change the rules.' Leia said. 'So that later generations may not suffer.'

'Yes.' I told her.

Someone knocked on my closed door. "Quinn?"

"What?" I asked.

"I am your Alpha and you will not answer me in that way." He said and paused. "Can I come in?"

I got up, locking the door.

I know he heard the click.

I turned on my bluetooth speaker and connected my phone.

"Quinn I need to speak with you about a very serious matter." He knocked on the door again.

I turned on Pandora and some random song started to play.

I turned the volume all the way and flopped down on my bed.

I picked up my paperback copy of The outsiders and turned to where I had stopped yesterday.

I couldn't hear what the Alpha was yelling but I could see the door shaking in it's frame.

I didn't care.

Mom wouldn't let him break the door.

And he couldn't touch her.

I'm completely safe.

******

Sorry it took so long but this was hard to wrap up.
