Quinn

I looked between the eyes and Chance.

The eyes glared at Chance and he screamed in agony.

"Stop." I said quietly.

Whoever it was didn't seem to hear me or maybe they just didn't care.

"Stop it!" I screamed at them.

The eyes looked my way and softened.

A shape shifted and the eyes rose as the predator rose to his feet.

Whoever's wolf this was...

Seemed to be almost the same size as River's wolf, An alpha.

Maybe bigger.

My legs collapsed beneath me and I sank to my knees. "W-who are you?"

The eyes blinked slowly.

So slowly that the entire wolf seemed to disappear into the darkness for a second.

"Can you come out?" I asked. "Into the light."

The eyes blinked again.

So that's a no.

They looked at Chance once again, then back at me.

"Thank you." I said.

Though hard to figure at first I'm pretty sure it nodded.

Then it started backing away, quickly and quietly into the woods.

The eyes blinked once again but this time they did not come back.

He was gone.

Chance stirred, groaning. Then he sat up and vomitted.

Pathetic.

"You alright?" I asked.

"What happened?" He asked.

"That was a nasty fall. I'm not surprised you don't remember." I said.

He stood up shakily and I gave him a small push. "I guess you'd better be on your way."

"Yeah." He said slowly and started around the house.

I watched him all the way till I saw him shift into Knight and disappear down the road.

I pulled out my phone again.

Four missed calls from Everett.

I dialed his number and he picked up on the first ring.

"Quinn are you alright?" He asked immediately. "You're not hurt?"

"Relax. I'm fine." I said. "You sound out of breath."

"Just finished working out." He said. "You've never missed my call before. I was worried."

"Sorry. Had some people over." I said. "Lost track of time."

It wasn't technically a lie.

"Oh. Well can you come out with me tonight?" He asked.

"Are you asking me to come with you to a place other than your bedroom?" I asked.

He chuckled. "Yes. Will you come?"

"Depends." I said. "Where are we going?"

"Out with some of my friends." He said. "Just for drinks, discuss doing business and of course I need a pretty girl at my side."

"Why?" I asked.

"All the most important men have one and I like to think of myself as one of them." He said. "Will you show?"
