Harry thought that his aunt would be there as soon as he woke up, on his 17th birthday, but she did not arrive until dinner time.
Jenny hugged Harry as she entered the Burrow.
"Padfoot. Sorry I'm late" she whispered in his ear.
"Prongs" replied Harry as he withdrew.
Jenny handed Harry a box, wrapped in blue paper, and followed him into the lounge.
"Happy Birthday Harry" said Jenny as she collapsed onto one of the sofa's.
Harry sat down next to her and opened his present.
Jenny had given Harry a box of Chocolate frogs, and a large brown coat.
"It's enchanted. It will keep the wearer warm at all times. At least until the charm wears off" explained Jenny.
"Thank you" replied Harry."What else did you get?" Asked Jenny.
"Ron gave me a book about girls. Mrs Weasley gave me a watch. Hermione gave me a Sneakoscope. Bill and Fleur got me an enchanted razor. I recieved chocolates from Fleur's parents. And a box of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes from Fred and George" answered Harry.
"Lucky you. Are you enjoying being an adult?"
"Yeah. Although I summoned my glasses with magic earlier, and they poked me in the eye".
Jenny laughed.
"I remember James doing the same thing when he turned 17"
"Ha. That makes me feel better"
"Sirius laughed when James told him"."What was it like when you turned 17?" Harry asked.
"I don't really remember Harry. It was the same year you were born, my parents had died the year before, and there was a war going on. I had a lot on my mind. Besides, I could already do magic in the house, as I was homeschooled. But it was nice to do magic outside of the family grounds" admitted Jenny.
"Oh yeah, I forgot you didn't go to Hogwarts"
"I would have loved to go, but I was a very sick child"
"You're not sick anymore though"
"No. I'm not".Jenny laid her hand on her stomach, remembering what her health had cost her. She may be healthy now, but she would never be able to have children of her own.
Jenny forced a smile and ruffled Harry's hair.
"Come on, let's see if there's any food around. I'm starving" she said, getting up off the chair, and dragging Harry into the kitchen. At 7oclock the rest of Harry's birthday guests arrived. Lupin, Tonks, and Hagrid all squeezed into the Burrow, handing Harry their gifts.
"Happy birthday Harry. 6 years since the day we met, do you remember?" said Hagrid as he hugged Harry tightly.
"Vaguely. Didn't you smash down the front door, give Dudley a pig's tail, and tell me I was a wizard?" Replied Harry.
"I forget the details" chortled Hagrid.
Hagrid had given Harry a moleskin pouch, any items placed inside, could only be retrieved by the owner.
Hagrid then made his way over to Charlie, who had been one of his favourite students. And the pair began talking about Hagrid's dragon, the Norwegian Ridgeback, he had Christened Norbert.Everyone was patiently waiting for Arthur to return home from work, so that they could eat their dinner. Molly had begun to pace the kitchen, nervously waiting for his return.
Suddenly a streak of light entered the room, it took the shape of a bright silver weasel, and spoke with Arthur's voice.
"The Minister for Magic is coming with me".
The Patronus dissolved, leaving the family shocked and astonished.
"We shouldn't be here. Harry I'm sorry, I'll explain another time" said Remus, taking hold of Tonks's hand.He looked at Jenny, silently asking her if she was going to leave as well, but Jenny shook her head.
"I'm staying here" replied Jenny, folding her arms.
Remus nodded and pulled Tonks out of the room. They climbed over the fence in the back garden, and dissappeared from sight.
Molly looked bewildered, but there was no time to discuss the matter, for Arthur and Rufus Scrimgeour appeared in the front garden moments later."Sorry to intrude. Especially as I can see that I am gatecrashing a party" said Scrimgeour, who eyes lingered on Harry's Snitch birthday cake. "Many happy returns".
"Thanks" muttered Harry.
"I require a private word with you, Mr Ronald Weasley, and Miss Hermione Granger" explained Scrimgeour.
Arthur gestured to the empty living room, and Scrimgeour walked in, followed by Ron and Hermione.
Once the Minister's back was turned, Jenny transformed into a squirrel and jumped onto Harry's back. Harry felt her land on him, but said nothing.
He closed the door behind him and Jenny jumped down. She ran to the curtains, and hid herself behind them. Praying that the Minister hadn't seen her.Scrimgeour sat down on the armchair that Arthur usually occupied, leaving the other 3 to squeeze side by side on the sofa.
He then began to explain the reason why he was he. The Minister had come to give the three of them, items from Dumbledore's will.
He handed Hermione a book, Ron a Deluminator, and Harry the first Snitch he had ever caught.
"Is that it then?" Questioned Harry.
"Not quite. Dumbledore also left you a second bequest Potter. He left you the sword of Godric Griffindor" replied Scrimgeour."So where is it?" Harry questioned.
"Unfortunatley the sword was not Dumbledore's to give away. According to reliable historicical sources, the sword may present itself to any worthy Griffindor, but that does not make it that wizards property. So Mr Potter, why do you think Dumbledore wanted to give it to you?" Asked Scrimgeour.
"I don't know. Maybe he thought it would look nice on my wall"
"This is not a joke Potter. Did he think it would help you defeat He Who Must Not Be Named?"
"Interesting theory. Has anyone ever tried sticking a sword in Voldemort? Maybe the Ministry should find out, instead of wasting their time stripping down Deluminators or covering breakouts from Azkaban. People are dying, I was nearly one of them. But there's been no word from the Ministry, has there. And you still expect us to cooperate with you".Scrimgeour stood up angrily.
"You go too far" he shouted. Harry stood up and faced him.
The Minister limped towards Harry, sticking his wand into his shirt, burning a hole.
"Oi" said Ron, raising his wand in Harry's defense.
But Harry stopped him.
"No. Do you want to give him an excuse to arrest us?" Said Harry.
"Remembered you're not at school. Remembered that I am not Dumbledore, who forgave your insolence and insubordination? It's not up to a 17 year old boy to tell me how to do my job. It's time you showed me some respect"
"It's time you earned it".Jenny smiled at her Nephew's bravery, but realised that if he kept going, he was going to end up in serious trouble. She threw back the curtain, and transformed back into a human. At the same time, the door burst open, and the Weasley's entered the room.
"We thought we heard raised voices" said Arthur, looking alarmed at the sight of the Minister and Harry standing virtually nose to nose.
Scrimgeour took a couple of steps back from Harry, seeming to regret his loss of temper.
Jenny had her wand out, but she didn't raise it. Threatening the Minister for Magic, was not a good idea.
"I regret your attitude Mr Potter. We ought to be working together" begged Scrimgeour.
"I don't like your methods Minister. Remember" replied Harry, rasing his right fist, and showing Scrimgeour the scars that still showed on Harry's skin.
I must not tell lies.Scrimgeour's expression hardened, and he turned away without another word. He limped out of the room and dissappeared.
"Are you alright Harry?" Questioned Jenny, pointing at Harry's singed shirt.
"I'm fine" muttered Harry.
Hermione fixed the shirt with a flick of her wand, and everyone returned to the kitchen to have dinner.
"You shouldn't have lost your temper like that" Jenny whispered as she took her seat, next to Harry.
"I know. But I just couldn't help it" Harry whispered back."I get that, and I'm proud of you for sticking up for youself. But Harry, he's the Minister for Magic, you shouldn't be rude to him. Not to his face anyway. If you had attacked him, things could have gone very badly" admitted Jenny.
"Yeah, I know. It won't happen again" promised Harry.
"It had better not".
Jenny cut a piece of birthday cake and gave it to Harry.
"An eventful birthday right?" She said smiling.
Harry nodded and took a bite of the cake. "Well it couldn't be my 17th birthday without something unexpected happening".
Jenny smiled, and took a piece of cake for herself. The taste and texture was magnificent. Molly Weasley really knew how to cook.
