Getting to know you

This week, work was hectic with the new shipment coming in. I worked closely with Mel on making sure things were how they were supposed to be. Scott was tied up doing deals with other businesses.

After work, it was a whole different story. Every time I turned around, Scott would randomly show up at my door. I couldn't deny that deep down inside I looked forward to it.

Kami even started taking a liking to him. I think it's because he offered to watch Sponge bob with her. I tried not to overthink the kiss. I mean it was probably just a heat of the moment kind of thing.

One night he came over and brought Ben and Jerry's ice cream. After dinner, Kami was washing up, and I dished out some ice cream into bowls as he helped.

"You know, you have a little something right there," he said, pointing at my face.

"I do?"

"Yep."

"Where?" I started feeling around.

"Right here," he said as he placed a hand on the back of my head and pulled me into a kiss. It was rough but sweet. I couldn't help but kiss him back. He placed his other hand on the side of my face as he kissed me. I put my hands on his back.

He poured so much into that kiss and made me realized something. I think I was starting to fall for him.

He pulled back and placed his forehead against mine, "That was."

"Amazing," I finished.

"Yeah."

"I want to take you out," he said to me.

"Like a date," I asked a bit surprised.

"Well, that's what taking you out means," he smiled. I smiled.

"Okay," I said to him.

"We better get this ice cream ready before Kami starts wondering where we ran off to," he said, grabbing a couple of bowls up. I think that's what I found the most attractive about Scott. It was how he was with Kami and his daughter.

I felt terrible that he couldn't see her often. From what little he told me about her, I couldn't understand how she could be like that. It wasn't until I realize Georgia was his daughter that I completely understood.

His ex didn't go by Victoria when she dropped Georgia off at school. She went by the nickname Vicky, and she was something else. She cared more about herself than Georgia. I remember Georgia showed her a picture she drew and Vicky acted disinterested. My heart ached for her.

I walked over and told Georgia what a pretty picture it was and how good of a job she did. Her whole face lit up, and she gave me the image. That's when I got an idea.

I turned to my fridge and pulled down a picture. I carried it into the living room along with my bowl of ice cream. I took a seat on the other side of Kami. She and Scott were eating ice cream and laughing at what Sponge bob was doing.

"I have something for you," I said to Scott. He looked at me, and I handed him the picture. He took it and looked at it. "Georgia drew it. Vicky couldn't be bothered so I told her it was beautiful and she gave it to me. I had it on my fridge along with Kami's pictures."

He set his bowl down and looked at it. It was a picture of a little girl and a guy in front of a house with a tree and the sun. At the top were daddy and me.

I watched him wipe his eyes, and he tried to get his composure, "Thank you for this. Victoria won't let Georgia give me anything from school."

"Well, if you want, I can see about collecting her stuff from Tara," I suggested.
