Hope

Taking a deep breath, I stared at Jake's arm as he had his arms wrapped around me. He said that stretching and learning how to remain calm in a time of danger was a part of our training. But the way he held me, I felt like it was more than that. It made me hate that I didn't understand what was happening. Whether he had something against me or not. If he had been using me or if he had been protecting me.

He broke me from me thoughts when he removed his hands from my body and took a step back. Once again, I took a deep breath before facing him to look and see my real enemy who I didn't know was enemy or my friend.

"Are you ready for the fun part?" Jake asked as I turned around, giving him my full attention.

  "No, actually...I don't—think I wanna continue."

"Okay." Jake nodded with a simple shoulder shrug. "Did I— make you uncomfortable?" He asked. "I kind of forgot about your boyfriend-"

"Can I ask you something?" Interrupting him, I folded my arms and walked closer to him. Jake nodded his head and stared down into my eyes. "I can trust you...right?" I asked.

Jake stared at me, without saying anything. I assumed that he knew that I knew something that he didn't want me to know.

"Of course." As I stared into his eyes, all I could see was honesty.

That's why I thought I couldn't trust him. Because I was seeing something other than what he had been telling me. Jake let out a sigh and nearly rolled his eyes.

"This is about Daniel isn't it?" He asked. "I had nothing to do with the explosion, I had nothing to do with the guy in the house."

"Then how do you know about it?"

"Because it's your brother who can't trust me." More honesty. "He and his friends did something to me a few centuries ago, and I finally have a way to-"

  "Get revenge?" I questioned.

"No." He shrugged. "To get justice. I watched him kill my mother with a smile on his face, Hope."

I nodded my head and I believed him. I knew that KJ wasn't a saint, and he had already told me about the Royal families that he hunted.

"You're not killing my brother." I stared in a serious voice. "Unless you wanna kill me first, but we both know that that isn't going to happen."

"I'm not going to kill your brother anyways." Jake shrugged. "Some guy named Jason Gautier threatened me to stay away from him. But even before he did, when I found out that KJ was your brother...I remembered what Devin had told me when I first woke up. She told me to be the best man that I could be if I wanted to thank her for what she did for me. And being the best man that I can be means showing you how much I actually do like you."

I clinched my jaws as Jake walked closer to me, placing his hands on my cheeks and looking directly into my eyes.

"I gave her my word and I am going to keep it." He nodded. "Hope, I really do like you...and I do apologize if it seems that I've done something wrong. I'll do whatever it takes to make it up to you."
