It's interesting to observe how possessive people are about their property and the lengths they will go to in order to keep it safe. There is often a great deal of pride in accumulating multiple properties as it seems to give people the status that they long for. Also, for centuries, people and whole countries have fought with each other over who rightfully owns pieces of land. David starts Psalm 24, with a statement that changes it all:
"The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters." Psalm 24:1-2 NIV
Lord, the land I am on right now, belongs to you! All that I have is only possible because You made it. I wonder how different the world would be if people really took this fact on board? I am only borrowing my little part of the earth while I am here. Appreciation would surely be one positive outcome if people remembered that this ground we stand on belongs to You. Perhaps people would be more willing to give and share with others. Maybe fighting would cease!
Absolutely everything we have, belongs to You Lord. Even everything we make with our own hands is only possible because You gave us the raw materials in the beginning for us to use. Thank You for the many plants and amazing natural substances, the many minerals and elements that we use to make all kinds of products. Thank You for making and establishing this incredible world!
Thank You too for reminding us through this Psalm that we all belong to You. Everyone on this earth belongs to You, whether they call You Lord or not. Remembering the fact that You made us all and knowing that You love us all should surely affect the way we treat each other!
Help me to remember these verses as I go about my day. May appreciation and thanksgiving be on my lips as I marvel at the beauty of Your creation. May I not take for granted the provisions You have allowed me to consume and may I be quick to share Your blessings with others, remembering that all I have belongs to You. Help me to love all the people I come in contact with as You made them. Let me remember Jesus' commandment:
"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you." John 15:12 NIV
Thank You that You made me and showed Your great love for me in sending Jesus:
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 NIV
Thank You that I am adopted into Your family. I am Your child and I can talk to You whenever I want about anything at all. Help me as I seek to let others know that they too can personally know the Creator of this great world!
