Special Pet Part 10

    Margaret's owner is contacted by their Mother the next day while their pet is still asleep. She says she will be coming to visit in three days. Margaret's owner says that is fine.

    While deciding what to prepare the pet for breakfast Quigor remembers how Margaret kept reaching for things she's not allowed to have and how she got hurt trying to cook once. Her owner decides that now is the time to train the pet, before their Mother arrives to visit. They will just have to be careful not to over tire the human.

    Deciding to make the pet scrambled eggs for breakfast, the alien goes to retrieve Margaret out of her bed. Quigor carefully picks up Margaret and hands her a dress to put on. Margaret is carefully set down and left alone in the room to dress.

    Margaret is ready when her owner returns a few minutes later.

    "Good, Margaret!" Quigor tells her. Instead of picking her up her owner tells her to come.

    Margaret looks at her owner, confused. She doesn't know that word, and she doesn't know why her owner isn't picking her up.

    Quigor gently grabs Margaret's hand and repeats the word come, carefully leading her to the dining room.

    Margaret tries to say the word, but can't pronounce it right. Her owner tries to teach her to say it correctly but the human just isn't able to.

    They reach the dining room.

    "Good, Margaret!" Quigor says, pleased that the pet did so well.

    Quigor carefully picks up Margaret and places her in her highchair. As Margaret is strapped in, she tries the word "come" again thinking it must mean food.

    "No, Margaret," Quigor says gently, confusing the pet. Margaret doesn't know what she did wrong. Her owner had thought she understood what "come" meant, but they now realize they were wrong. Then they notice that the pet looks upset.

    "It's okay, Margaret," Quigor says very gently. They then make her the scrambled eggs for breakfast.

    Margaret watches, very confused. She doesn't know what her owner is talking about. She watches her owner prepare the food. They are putting eggs into a strange looking device. They are also cutting up spiny looking stems. That must be her owner's food, Margaret thinks.

    Quigor gives the plate of scrambled eggs to Margaret. They point to the eggs saying a strange word the human doesn't understand. Margaret hungrily accepts the eggs and starts eating. Quigor gives her a glass of orange juice to drink.

    The alien eats the spiky stems for breakfast. Margaret enjoys her eggs. She suddenly realizes that her owner is finally trying to teach her some words. Good. She's been wanting to learn more words for a while now.

    When they are both finished eating, the alien gently picks up Margaret out of the highchair and carefully sets her down on the floor.

    "Come," Quigor says. Margaret still doesn't understand, so her owner gently takes her hand and leads her again. They go to a room Margaret has never been in before. It is a large open room with a soft carpet and not much furniture. There are a few containers with some type of objects that Margaret doesn't recognize.

    "Play?" Margaret asks.

    "No, Margaret," says Quigor firmly. They decide that first they will teach the pet "come" and "stay". They decide that if they are holding a toy the pet likes, it might be easier to teach her to come.

    The alien picks up an interesting toy Margaret has never seen before.

    " Margaret, come, " they command.
