Alex Pov
"Alexander! Wake up!" I heard John shout from below.

I sat up and scuffed my hair.
"What's going on?" I asked, my eyes adjusting to the light.

"The guards are going to let us out in about three minutes." He said.

I wiped my nose.
I  don't belong here.
I'll never get used to it.
I'm not a bad guy.

"What do we even do when they let us out?" I asked.

"Some guys take showers, some eat breakfast, some go outside, some work out. It's sort of diverse. If you want, you can stay by me and I'll help you out." He said.

"Would you? Thanks."
"No problem kid."

"I'm not a-"
I cut myself off and sighed.

He smirked and tried to flatten out his jumpsuit. I climbed down from the top bunk.

"Hey..um..I wanted to ask you about something you said yesterday?..uh.."
I said, fidgeting with my hands.

"Continue," He prompted, looking out through the bars of our cell.

It doesn't matter.
He seems like a good guy and if I can just push what he said behind me it'll be fin-

"Are you homophobic?"

It slipped.
FUCK.
How do I cover that up?!

He raised an eyebrow.

"No I'm not homophobic. And I never will be becau-...I only said what I said because if you're openly gay..
in a place like this?
You'll never be able to live it down.
I was just trying to help you kid. Why do you ask?" He said.

I instantly averted my eyes.
"No reason." I said quickly.

"Nice job kid. You're learning." He said, walking to the bars of our cell.

"W-what? I'm not gay," I said, following him to the bars.

"Damn you learn fast kid.
Faster than I did anyway."
He said, muttering his last sentence.

I bit my lip and tried to swallow my anxiety in a large gulp.

A guard came by and opened our cell door.

"Follow me," John said, walking out.

I saw a bunch of men all filing out of cells. This is nerve wracking.
Everyone was taller than me, and more muscular than me.

There were no women, excluding a few guards.

I figured it was most likely because someone here was probably a registered sex offender.

I mean there could be gay registered sex offenders, but I assume you know what I'm getting at.

I walked with John to a cafeteria.
Man, I haven't said nor thought the word 'cafeteria' for two years at least.

Two men came up to John and greeted him.

"Who's the pipsqueak?" One of Johns friends asked.

You fucking bitc-

"His name is Alexander." John said. "Call me Alex." I said through gritted teeth.

"Hey, calm down Alex." The other guy said.

I squared my jaw and breathed through my nose.

I stared at the guy who called me pipsqueak, wondering if I should clock him one or not.

"Alex?" John asked, trying to break off me and Mr.Bitchs stare down.

"You like what you see?" The guy asked, a smirk on his face.

Don't say anything weird.
Or gay.
Well shit that's diffucult when you find almost every man hot.

Sure, his personality may be shit, but damn he's got some nice biceps.

I glanced at John who was giving me a look that said,
'Don't you fucking dare say something gay.'

I looked back at the guy.

"F-Fuck you." I growled, trying my best to be even slightly intimidating.

He smirked.

"I would beat you to a pulp but it is your first day, so I won't do anything." He said.

Then he grabbed then hem of my shirt and pulled me close, causing my breath to hitch.

"But if you say anything remotely like that again, I'll kill you." He growled in my ear.

He let go and pushed me to the floor walking away with his friend.

"Who was that?" I asked, standing up and wiping myself off.

"Thomas Jefferson alongside James Madison. They come as a set." He told me.

"Bitches." I muttered.

I went through a line with John to get breakfast. I prayed that it wasn't shit like everyone on TV shows would say.

Once I finally sat down at a table with it, it didn't look bad but then when I tasted it.

It was awful.

"Is it poison?" I asked John.

"No it's just shit."
"Please tell me your joking."

He chuckled and continued to eat.
Two more men came and sat next to John.

"Hello Jacki."
One of them said.

John laughed and punched him.
"Don't call me that!" He exclaimed.

"Whatever you say mon ami."
The other said.

"Alex, this is Herc and Laf. They aren't that much of assholes, so I think you'll like them." John told me.

"I'm Laf, and the stupid one is Herc." Laf said, a smile on his face.

I took a bite of toast and nodded.

Friends in prison.
How fucking great.
