Broken Glass

PoV: Shadow

"The glove was around here before. Now what?" Rouge asked.

"I don't know," I snapped, "shut up so I can concentrate."

"Fine fine," she walked off.

  I looked for anything, any clues. Whatever it took to finish this mission. The glove that was here, Rouge had it. It had Sonic's scent, but it was faint. At least we were on the right path. It had been ages, any clues would have been gone by no- I stopped what I was doing, the bark of a tree was slashed.

"These weren't done by any animal," the cuts could only be done by a machine, "Rouge," I ignore a strange impulse to smile, "we've got our first clue."

"Finally! This is going to cheer up Tails so much. The kid's been going non stop to look for Sonic," Rouge had a wide grin.

"It looks like they went southwest. Time to go," I walked off in the direction of the scars.

  We found more trees with scars until we reached open water.

"Son of a bitch!" Rouge shouted, "this is not another dead end. I can't take these anymore. Come on."

"What are you? Hey!" She grabbed me and we flew over the water.

  She continued in the same direction for hours. I'm sure she was pushing herself. Soon we found a small island. On it what looked like a much more advanced Eggman lair, but his symbol wasn't on it in any way. This was someone else lair. Someone who didn't want anyone to get in. I chaos controlled us to the ground and Rouge collapsed in my arms.

"Finally, well find him," she yawned.

"I'll send out our coordinates, you rest here. I'm just going to be sure Sonic's here," I said.

  She nodded and I hid her where no one would see as she slept. I sent out our coordinates through my silent communicator. Back up would be here in a few hours. Now, I had to be sure this was the right place.

  I got myself into the walls, the guards all mechanical. I walked around, making sure I wasn't seen. Eventually, I found my way to a ledge over what looked like a lab.

"Strap him down. I have a new injection to test on him," a man in a lab coat came in.

  A short brown and grey beard. White hair that was balding and glasses that blocked his eyes from my sight. My stomach sank when I heard screaming coming from the halls. Scratches on the floor, even the multiple humans in teal scrubs seemed amused. I didn't expect anything like this. A weak and pale, blue hedgehog was being forced into the room. He fought, but I would have heard his screams earlier on. The forced him onto the table. A large metal strap in the center held him down as he struggled.

"Subject is secure," one said.

"Good good," the man in the lab coat filled a syringe, "Well Sonic."

  That's really him? My heart dropped, I didn't recognize him. He was so thin and weak. His quills were messy and dull. I couldn't see his eye, they were shut tight. The next thing I heard was a blood-curdling scream. The man had injected him with something. He didn't stop, he was in agony.

"This serum will render any enemy defenseless. It sends surges of pain until their system is completely flushed out. Out test subject is demonstrating its effects perfectly. He'll be screaming into the night," I hated that man's laugh, how could he find this amusing, "I have done what everyone else has failed to do. I broke the only hero, Mobius has. Ahahahahaha! This is our greatest test subject in history!"

  I hated everything I heard. The teal's clapping, this wretched man's laughter, and Sonic's constant screaming. I hated it all. I wanted to save him right there, but then Rouge would be stranded, not to mention back up was here and I didn't know the power of this man. I left, my chest burning from the state of how I left Sonic. I got back and Rouge was wide awake.

"Did you scope the place out?" She asked.

  I nodded and left back against a tree.

"They've been torturing him. They're doing it right now, I'm shocked he's even alive," I pushed back my quill, "Damn fucked up animals."

"That's it, we're saving him without back up," Rouge growled.

"We were ordered not to attack until the squad arrives," I stopped her.

"Fuck!" She kicked, and shattered a rock, "This is bullshit!"

"I know Rouge, you should tell Tails we found him," I suggested.

"I will right now since we have to wait," she started up her communicator.

  I could hear tail on the other end crying. Anything he said was blundered and high pitched. He never did lose hope in finding Sonic.

  The sun had already set. Those idiots were taking forever. Once their ships arrived I lead the way. As soon as we were inside the walls we had to be much more careful. I guided them to the lab Sonic was last in. We busted in, the only thing was an empty room. Blood covered the table and there was vomit on the ground.

"Oh my chaos, what the hell happened here?" One of the backups stated.

"We need to search the place now," I ordered.

"Must you really interrupt my work?" The man in the lab coat was back, "go home. You aren't wanted here."

"Give us back Sonic!" Rouge growled.

"He's my property now, guards!" Robots surrounded us, "kill them."

PoV: ???

  I heard strange noises. Was someone being fired again? The bangs don't usually last this long for that. Someone please, make the noise stop. I don't like it, I curled into a ball as best I could. Everything ached and was sore. They gave me a new cut on my belly. They pulled and poked things inside. They wanted to test another gun on me. I felt everything, but there was no scar. I still threw up blood here and there.

  I covered my ears and tried to sleep. That was the only thing I tried at anymore.

  I woke up where I fell asleep. Cold metal, then panic rose. Broken, everywhere. The glass they watched me through was gone. It was broken all over the cold floor. My heart sank as dozens of people were around me, all dress in a dark color. I remembered that color being called black. One stepped closer, I backed away but found the wall. They reached for me and I froze with fear. The start of another nightmare.

"You're scaring him," one with white fur said, "... Sonic."

  Who are You? Get away! I growled at it.

"Sonic, it's me Rouge. You know me, you know Shadow too. Come on, we're taking you home," it reached a white hand near me.

  I panicked, I didn't scare it. I tried up the walls but they dulled my nails, I couldn't get again.  It had stopped moving. Instead, something fell from its eyes. I didn't like this, there were too many people around. I was picked up by my scruff and I screamed for them to let me go.

  No! I don't want to go back! Let me be! I screamed and clawed at the arm holding me.

"What are you doing!" They shouted.

  I felt something around my wrists and ankles before I was out down. I didn't move. My heart was pounding. My arms and legs were chained together.

"I sick of all of this, he needs therapy. But we have to take him home. We'd either be fighting him or knocking him out. I picked knocking him out," I flinched as something pinched my arm, "now let's move."

  I felt dizzy. I didn't know what they did to me, but I never knew before. I felt something moving me just before it went black.

  Well, they got to Sonic. Yay!

  Now all that's left is what to do after.
