A revenge gone awry

Two days later, I was still furious at both of them.   It got even worst when I had to start working with Nick.  Apparently he liked my work and had me reviewing contracts all day.  I was glad for the work but he would smirk every time he saw me.

“Would you stop that!” I nearly shrieked as he came to drop off some new contracts.

“Am sorry” he said, still smirking.  “You are just so cute when you are angry” he said and laughed as I scowled.

“Oh yeah? It won’t work again” I said, knowing he was trying to make me believe he was interested in me, like he had done when I first joined.  I was dead sure it was planned by my husband of course.

He laughed and walked to his office.  My phone rang and I stared at the unknown number.  “Hel-“

“We need to go for a party tonight.” Came the very arrogant voice.  I sighed.  By now I did not even need to ask how he got my num.  I had a pretty good idea of how powerful he could be.

“Okay. What time?” I asked.

“No need to get ready at home.  We leave after office hours.  I asked Andrea to get you some clothes.  You can come change in my office” he said and hung up.  Damn it.  I hate it when he is this arrogant.  And what was it about him buying me stuff all the time?

Probably cause you cannot afford the dresses to go to his parties. A little voice in my head answered.  I shook my head.  It’s alright, I never wear them again anyways.

I took the dress from his office and walked back to Andrea’s desk.  “Mind if I change in there?” I asked, pointing to the restroom on the floor.  She shrugged and nodded.

As soon as I opened the box, I thought I could pass out.  Now, I was not a girly girl, but this dress was exquisite.  It was a royal blue in colour and was knee high with a low decolte which I doubted I could pull off well.  I sighed and started changing.  I applied slight make up, since I was not big on it and put on the shoes.

“Ready” I say as soon as I am done and walk into his office.  He turns to me, talking on the phone and motions me to sit down.  He has changed in his suit and looks classy, but with his cold unfeeling eyes, he looks angry.  Why the hell is he always angry? He had a handsome face but for those angry looks.

“Less than 10 minutes!” he exclaims, glancing at his watch.  “Impressive” he says and we walk out.  Damn it, I still need to get used to heels.  But these are a little better than the one I had to wear for the wedding.

“You can’t walk in heels?” he asks, in that you-are-so-stupid tone.

I shake my head.  I always preferred flats or even sports shoes.  Heels were always a nightmare for me.  Hopefully the party won’t last long.

And again, I could not have been more wrong.  The party was actually a business party with arm candies – both male and female.

I got to see and actually get introduced to some of the country’s most successful businessman.  But what irked me was that they all looked at my husband as though he was a great guy.  Half of the crowd looked at him with hatred in their eyes, while still grudgingly respecting him and the other half simply adored him.  It was there in their every move, every look they gave him.

“Why are you so famous?” I asked once we were finally left alone.

He shrugged.  “Am good at what I do” he said, as though he never really thought about it.
