Happily ever after???

“Why the fight? I thought everything was ok now!” Nick said as he slumped on the seat in my office.  Yes! I had an office, I protested but my high handed husband/boss’ boss would have it no other way.

“It’s just that he does not tell me anything!” I said, still angry.  I had no idea we had to stay here, and when I confronted him about it days later, he told me he had a new office here and that I would be working here.

I shook my head again.  Why the hell can he not keep me informed!

“You should be happy that you got nothing to worry about, he takes all the major decisions and you get to enjoy.” Nick said, clearly enjoying my dilemma.

When I gave him a very pointed look, he chuckled and pointed to my huge window.  “Just look at the gorgeous weather.  It’s so romantic”

It really was.  Tropical weather was the best.  For the few weeks that I have been here, I got a nice tan.  But that was not a diversion enough to distract me from my husband.

“Come to think of it, you would not like it at all” he said and I frowned.  Like what?

Nick chuckled again.  “You would not like having all decisions taken for you”

“There are girls who like to be treated like that?” I asked and Nick laughed.

“Most of the girls in our circles like it.  They live for it – a husband to take care of them their whole life” he said as a joke, but there was censure in his voice.

“How can they like that?” I asked rhetorically and shook my head,

“Ah, still so naïve! I wonder how Damian got this lucky.  Maybe you should consider me” he said, all flirty again.

“Trying to snatch my wife?” the very manly voice that I so love came through the door and we both glanced up.  All feeling of anger at this man’s high handedness dissipated at the sight of him.  God he was handsome!

Nick suddenly became serious.  “And may I ask why are you disturbing my employee?”

“Cause she and I need to entertain the people who will sponsor your fat pay checks” he said and walked towards me as I got up.

He kissed me on the cheeks and I flushed.  He snaked his arm around my waist and pulled me close towards him.

“And she’s my wife” he stated as I smiled at him.

“Jeez, get a room, you two are better off fighting than being lovey dovey” he said and faked a pout and left.

I giggled at the thought of Damian being all lovey dovey.

“Something funny?”

“Yes, you” I said and kissed him on the cheeks before heading home to get ready for his yet another party.

And some party it was.  Just like those magazines pictures I saw of him.  Rooms filled with business persons and a lot of arm candies.  Beautiful women, graceful and elegant.  I watched my husband talk to the mayor and some main investor.

I was to talk to the latter’s wife.  But she seemed the typical blonde.  All she was raving about tonight had been about make up.   Luckily since the men left for a drink, she became quiet.  I was admiring my husband’s broad back when I felt a tug at my elbow.

“Did you even listen to any of what I just said?” Naomi, the investor’s considerably younger wife asked, looking quite mad.  Crap!

I apologized.  She narrowed her eyes.  “At least you did not lie.  Damian chose well” she said and there was something about her that was off.  And Damian? She had been calling him Mr McMillian all evening.

I smiled tightly at her.

“Oh don’t play the innocent naïve wife! You and I both know he should have married someone much more beautiful to match his handsomeness.” She said and I had a distinct feeling she meant herself.

“And who should he have married?” I asked, not really familiar with this feeling of jealousy.  I wanted to slap that bitch! I wanted to erase that smirk off her face!  But I knew her husband would be a huge investor and I had to play it cool.

“Oh I don’t know.  Someone like me, beautiful, slim and gorgeous” she finished in a sigh.

“It’s a pity that instead he got a witty, intelligent and able to stand her own ground wife” I said and watched her react to my words.

“Why you!” she started saying, her face a picture of pure anger, when a very familiar voice cut right in.
“Am I going to witness a catfight?”

I smiled at the voice, and saw Naomi’s face turn to that of adoration!  I turned my back to see Dorian, full on singer mode, all boyish charm and smiles.

He walked right in, took Naomi’s hand and gallantly kissed it.  Naomi blushed.  “We meet again beautiful Naomi” He said and winked at me.

“Ever so charming” Naomi gushed as Dorian gazed at her with love sick eye.  I watched the whole scene like a trance.  Naomi was completely putty in his hands.  Dorian did know how to manipulate women.

“So, why the catfight?” he asked me in a tone that meant he was putting all the blame on me.  I frowned.  Naomi had the most evil smile on her face.  I was about to give them both a piece of my mind, when someone grabbed my fisted hand.  “Come on Dorian, you should take proper care of your sister in law” I heard Serena say and I was dumbstruck.    “He is saving both you and Damian from losing a very expensive investor” she whispered in my ear.

OK, Serena was on my side? What?  I seem to be in a dream.  Dorian pouted, “But Naomi here was in a fix”

“Still, pretty Naomi has been married for a while now so she won’t feel the jealousy, but Demetria here is still a blushing bride, young and naïve” Serena said and I knew Naomi did not like what she said at all.  But who would dare to argue against the heiress of the most famous Resort chain?

“Ah, the blushing and secret smiles still hasn’t faded away.  I can see Damian is a lucky man” Dorian said and Naomi, still putty in his hands, smiled at him as he led her away for some drinks.

“Well that went well” Serena said when they were out of earshot.  She looked at me and smiled, apologetically.

“I did not know you can’t swim” she said, and looked quite apologetic, though it looked comical.  “I am not used to apologising.  So I’ll say it just this once, I am very sorry.” She said and did look genuinely sorry.

“It’s alright I guess.” I said, not knowing how to react.  She was going to be family too.

She smiled her very pretty smile and took my hands.  “Now that that’s over, I think we are going to be great friends” she said and sounded so enthusiastic.  She looked around and whispered.  “Ignore that Naomi bitch, she used to aspire to be Mrs Damian McMillian.” And I was left gaping at her.

She continued conspiratorially “She wanted to divorce her much older husband and marry him, but then you both got married.  She was still spiteful until your four month apart stint.” She look disapproving, “She thought it’s her chance” she said and I was unable to say anything.

OK so I get it that my husband is a very good catch, but would I have to deal with this all my life?
