Chapter 19 The Strangest Place to Find Love (Jamie's POV)

After almost ten hours of driving I pulled into the FreeState Motel. I drove through the little town using the directions Brandon gave me to find the small dilapidated house Dewayne was supposed to be living. I had to see the house Marie shared with him.
The small off-white house was nothing special. It blended in with the other houses along the street. Compared to the other houses on the street though, this one looked almost sad. Too many terrible secrets kept behind those walls.
The house was empty. You could see in through the front windows from the street. I wanted to go up to the house and look around but was afraid the neighbors would get the wrong idea and call the police. Instead I headed back toward town and the only motel in it.
I spotted Marie's Nissan in the parking lot. It was in the corner of the lot with just an older car beside it. I parked on the other side of her car and turned my truck off. As luck would have it the room number Brandon told me Marie was staying in was directly in front of my truck.
I took a deep breath in to calm my nerves then slowly let it out. I grabbed my keys and wallet from the console and jumped from the truck. Ten hours in the same seat really makes your butt feel great!
I started going over what I would say to Marie as soon as she opened her door.
Make sure she keeps the door open, first of all. Then tell her I love her and I'm not leaving till we get the kids and can all go back home together.
I give the door a quick knock and a few seconds later the door opens. As soon as I see that first movement I start to talk. "Marie please let me..." Brandon must have got the room number wrong.
The short black woman was looking at me like she could eat me for dinner. When she got her fill she turned toward someone in the room and said something I couldn't catch. My phone started vibrating in my pocket right before the ringtone I set for Marie started coming from my jean pocket. I paid the woman at the door no attention as I scrambled to get my phone out.
"Baby I'm here please tell me where you are. I can't go another second without seeing you with what you're going through right now. I just want to hold you, and help make sure you're ok."
The only sound I could make out on the other end of the phone were sobs, I think. The girl at the door was staring at me again. This time with a goofy grin on her face and her hands claps together over her heart.
"That's got to be the sweetest thing I've ever heard! You must be Jamie. I'm Shay, I've heard a lot about you. Bout time you showed up. She's in here."
I was glad to finally put a face with the name. Marie had told me so many stories about her sister Shay, but at the moment I didn't really care. As soon as I stepped in the door I felt some of the tension leave my shoulders.
Marie was sitting on the bed with her phone still up to her ear crying her eyes out. The blankets were in a pile on the floor and balled up Kleenex littered the side table. Marie's hair was sticking up in weird angles all over her head. The dark circles and puffy eyes looked like they had been there for a while.
Marie never looked more beautiful to me. I went to the bed and pulled her into my arms. She wrapped her arms around my neck and crawled into my lap like a scared child.
I wanted to take all this from her. I didn't want her to ever feel like this again. Instead of sweet nothings I whispered promises in her ear. My promise not to leave. My promise to be there for whatever she needs, my promise to do everything I could to help her get the kids back. I told her I understood why she needed to be by herself, but promised she would never have to be alone again. I promised I would do everything I could to make her believe them.
The top half of my shirt was drenched when Marie's tears finally stopped. She pulled back to look me in the eyes. All the pain and fear she was feeling was showing in her eyes.
"What are you doing here?"
I couldn't help but chuckle at that. "To tell the woman I love and can't live without that she needs to start answering her phone." I sent her a wink hoping my joke would help lighten her mood.
Instead Marie just gave me a shocked look before whispering, "You love me?"
I cradled both of her cheeks in my hands where she could see the truth of my words shining in my eyes. "With everything I have. You and the kids. Y'all are it for me. We're gonna get them back then y'all are coming back to my house to live with me. I don't think I could handle it if you cut me out of your life again."
Fireworks exploding off my skin broke me out of the haze of remembering the worry and devastation when I didn't know what was going on. Marie slammed her lips down on mind kissing me with a passion she'd never shown before.
When Marie's tongue slipped inside my mouth and I got my first taste of her in days I let out a groan. I'd missed that taste. I ran my fingers through her thick mane of hair curling it around my fingers where I could deepen the kiss.
Marie went up on her knees pressing her hard nipples into my chest. She moved her legs to straddle my hips then bringing her core down to bring into my dick. We both moan loudly when Marie's hot pussy came in contact with my dick.
A sense of urgency came over me then. I had to get this woman naked, now! I had to show Marie I meant everything I said to her. I had to stake my claim and give her my heart officially.
Marie was right there with me. Moving her hips faster along the length of my ever hardening shaft, Marie didn't falter as she brought both of her hands to the bottom of my shirt and started pulling it up. We both broke apart for Marie to finish getting my shirt over my head and tossing it on the floor.
I was going back to kissing Marie's weak spot on her neck when Shay finally brought us back. "This is seriously hot and all, but I really don't wanna see my best friend naked."
Marie froze eyes rounding in shock. I place my face down in my intended target, but instead of kisses, I was picturing old folks on a nude beach, lot of them. I'm glad I'm not the only one who forgot we weren't alone.
"Oh god, I'm sorry Boo."
"Hell I'd be doing the same damn thing if a man like that said he loved me too. You got any brothers you can hook me up with?"
Marie starts laughing which brought a smile to my own face. "Oh god Boo, no. You would eat him up and spit him back out before he even knew what hit him."
"Hey now, I ain't that damn bad now."
Marie loved to tell stories, crazy stories, and more times than not Shay played the starring role in those stories. Some of their crazier adventures as Marie called them are hard for me to believe though. After meeting Shay, and watching her bring such joy to Marie, I liked her immediately. Let's hope the feeling is mutual.
"Shay, I want you to officially meet the man that has brightened up my life more than I could have ever dreamed, Jamie Shaw. Jamie this is my sister from another mister I've told you so much about Shay Cook."
I gave Marie a quick peek on the lips for the sweet words she said about me. "It's nice to finally meet you Shay. Marie's told me about quite a few of y'all adventures. I can't wait to go on one myself with y'all as soon as everything's back to normal." I got up off the bed and reached out to give her hand a shake.
"It's nice to finally meet you too Jamie. Now, I'm gonna go see if this place has a room where I can take a nap. How about we meet up later for dinner together?"
"That's ok by me Boo. I'll let you know if anything happens between now and then." Marie hugged Shay and followed her to the door. Marie closed and flipped the lock on the door then turned back toward me.
This seemed like the perfect time to start my speech. I scored to the back of the bed and patted the spot beside me for Marie to join me. The smile she graced me with stole my breath.
Marie's inner strength and will to always find a way to smile in the worst of times have her a beauty that surpassed everything for me. I would do everything in my power to make sure she always had that smile on her face.
As soon as Marie sat down I grabbed her hand and laced my fingers thru hers. "Baby I have a few things I need to tell you, and I hope you will listen all the way through before you interrupt."
"Well if that's not a challenge, Hotshot." Marie winked at me and I couldn't help but laugh. I gave the back of her I was holding a kiss.
"I love you Marie. I thought I was happy with my life before I met you, but I wasn't. I didn't know I could be as happy as I am now. I feel complete when I'm with you. Like you're the fresh breath of oxygen my body needs to survive. When I couldn't get in touch with you last Saturday and your car still hadn't shown up after you said you would be back I panicked. I have never felt like that before in my life. My mind went from one thing to another that could have went wrong each one worse than the last."
"After I called all the hospital between Memphis and FreeState I called my brother Brandon to see if he could help. When he called me back he told me about Dewayne taking the kids. I understood right away why you wouldn't answer my calls or text. Even though Dewayne broke your trust, I wasn't going to stop showing you mine. I knew you would answer me eventually. So in the mean time I made some calls and got the house and my jobs taken care of. As soon as Brandon called me back with your location I was leaving no matter what. I'm not going anywhere either."
"Wherever we have to go to get Bree and Alex back I'll be right there with you no matter how long it takes. Brandon and a few guys he works with are looking for him as we speak. As soon as we get them back I would love for y'all to move in with me. You don't have to give me an answer on that now, but I don't wanna waste another second of our lives together. I wanna give you and the kids everything you deserve and so much more."
"I know you're scared about what the kids are going thru, but they wouldn't want to see you so upset. They would hate how you've locked yourself away all week. So I'm gonna make sure you're not anything but positive. They are coming home soon. I'm gonna be the best shoulder you could need. If you need to cry, lean, hide, or lay you're head on to remember all the things you have to be happy about, I'm your man. So I hope you love me to because your stick with me forever. No take-backs."
It was something Marie didn't stop me at any time. I looked at her out of the corner of my eyes to gage her facial features. Marie reached over and laid her hand on my racing heart. I was imagining kiss a line up her arm to the sweet spot on her neck that drives her crazy. Now that I told her everything I was feeling I wanted to make up for the week apart.
Marie snapped me out of my daydream when she laid the back of our joined hands next to her heart. "I love you too Jamie Shaw. I'm so sorry I didn't tell you what was going on myself. I was so scared and afraid for the kids I haven't been functioning. I know that's not the way to handle the situation and I should have had the people who love around to keep me from much darkness. When I heard your phone on the other side of that door I knew I had messed up. You should have been here the whole time to bring back the light to my world. As soon as I feel you near I get a warm feeling deep inside and I never want to lose that feeling again."
I went back for her lips as soon as Marie finished talking. How did I get so lucky?
