"Come on," Tina hurried Newt as they walked through the streets of New York.
"Sorry but, I do have things to do, actually," Newt tried.
"Well, you'll have to rearrange them. What are you doing in New York anyway?" Tina asked.
"I came to buy a birthday present," Newt said.
"Couldn't you have done that in London?" She asked him.
"Why do people always assume you're from London if you're Brittish?" Lily wondered out loud.
"It's the only place they usually know," Newt told her. "And actually, I couldn't. There's only one breeder of Appaloosa Puffskeins in the world and he lives in New York, so no."
"I got a Section 3A," Tina told the guard. "By the way, we don't allow the breeding of magical creatures in New York. We closed that guy down a year ago."
They walked in and up the stairs, leading to an elevator.
"Hey, Baker. Hey, Goldstein," Red, the house elf in charge of the elevator greeted.
"Hey Red," the two girls said flatly at the same time.
"Major Investigation Department," Tina told him. Red frowned.
"But I thought you was-"
"She is," Lily confirmed.
"Then why-"
"Major Investigation Department," Tina repeated. "I got a Section 3A." The elf closed the door and they started to go down.
"I'll just go to the Wand Permit offices, Red, thank you," Lily added, earning a glare from Tina. "I told you I wasn't going to back you up on this one."
The elevator stopped and without anyone realizing, Newt Scamander's bowtruckle jumped from Newt's pocket into Lily's coat. She waved then goodbye and sat by Tina's desk, waiting for them to come back, which only took a couple minutes.
During those minutes, Lily sat down and started to read the newspaper article about the attack that happened not too far away from MACUSA. The paper had a moving photograph of the destruction that had been caused. Wizards alleged that it was the work of Grindelwald, but Lily was afraid she knew exactly what that was.
She was interrupted when Tina walked in, Mr. Scamander following her close behind.
"I told you-"
"Don't start," Tina warned.
Newt, who was quite the tall man, had to duck to walk in, for the office sign dangling from the ceiling was at least one head lower than him.
Tina sighed and went through a few documents.
"So, you got your wand permit? All foreigners have to have them in New York," Tina said.
"I made a postal application weeks ago," he told her.
"And you were just in Equatorial Guinea?" Tina asked, going through his documents.
"Yes I have just completed a year in the field. I'm writing a book about Magical Creatures," he said, picking Lily's interest.
"Like an extermination guide?" Tina suggested, earning a frown from the two other wizards in the room.
"No," Newt corrected. "A guide to help people understand why we should be protecting these creatures instead of killing them." Tina scoffed.
"Wow, you two are made for each other, Lily," she teased. Lily looked up at Newt, and catched him staring at her, which just made her look away and blush. "Lily here is Head of Care for Magical Cretures in London." Newt smiled.
"Really?" He asked her, impressed.
