SANDY

"You are mad at me" He wasn't asking.

"Yes," I said curtly and pulled the comforter closer to my chest.

He was sitting on the armchair and the soft light from the adjacent lamp illuminated his face. He had a book in his hand and his hair was semi-wet from the shower he took a while ago.  I was facing him but refused to meet his eye. It is very irresponsible to suggest the Twins and Claire to go to the resort. They can get killed and I didn't want their blood on my hands...and especially not on his hands. I don't know what he keeps plotting in that calculating mind of his. I sometimes fail to comprehend his hatred that crosses boundaries.

"They are not my enemies" He said, placing the book on the table. The binding did not resist seeing how I have read that one more than thrice till now. 'Wuthering Heights' has always been my favorite classic but he finds it hilarious for some reason.

'Selfish, arrogant and dumb pricks are brought together in this book' He says and still reads it. But I like how he falls into a easy space, his stiff shoulders relax and his mouth forms a upward curve whenever he is reading it. I just want him to be happy because....I owe him everything I have today- including my life. Just I wish the circumstances were different and we were more...'normal'.

"But you are sending them to their death" I argued.

"The king won't allow murder. They will be imprisoned if they do mess up... but murder? I don't think so...unless Noah decides to hide their corpses from his father" He spit out the last word as if it was poison on his tongue. This is how he usually refers to the King, Queen or anyone form the Vampire family. I asked him why he hated them so much but he serves silence in a silver platter.

"I don't hate them enough to wish for their death. They are an inconvenience, a nuisance...but not a threat" I said, softly.

"I know" He got up from his chair and crawled into the bed beside me, "I will not let it go out of hand. By the way...Delan was attacked"

He said it so casually, I thought he was talking about some fictional character from a TV series or a film. But when I recollected the names of the TV series he watches, Delan is a very unusual name....

"Who?" I frowned and turned to face him. He placed a gentle hand on my waist, over the comforter.

"The Crown Prince"

"Oh" Now I was interested, "Who...I mean...where?"

"In the palace. There was another attack and I guess, they were going for Noah and got Delan instead."

I pursed my lips together and thought about it. I don't want this guy dead because I didn't know him anyway. Even Alex seemed a little less aggressive while referring to him. I didn't know if it was because of the attack or he felt no bitterness towards the Prince. Very unlikely. He hates every Karson and every person associated with the Karsons. Why should Delan be an exception? My only concern was...

"Skylar?" I stared at him in horror, "Is she safe??"

"Oh, absolutely. Noah won't let anything happen to his new puppy"

I ignored the derogatory tone that he used when he spoke about Skylar. I was used to it and I didn't bother correcting him. He means no harm to her and as long as he is not involved with anything 'wrong', I don't mind.

"Is it them?" A lump of fear formed in my throat and I involuntarily shut my eyes to block the mental images. I still remember them. I knew how twisted and undesirable they were. I wouldn't wish them even on my worst enemies.
