I need that necklace back. It was given to me by my parents on my tenth birthday: the year of the accident. Nothing else that I owned even came close to how important that necklace was to me. I left my room, practically running down the halls. I followed the route Markus and I had travelled along, retracing my steps until I reached the common area. Thankfully, Markus and the others were still here and hadn't departed for the docks yet.

'North!' I called out breathlessly, jogging over to her.

'Blake?' She broke away from her conversation with Markus and turned to face me. 'What's wrong? Did something happen?'

I took a moment to catch my breath. 'M-My necklace,' I said in between breaths. 'I left my necklace at the motel! I need to get it back, North. You know how important it is to me. . .'

'Shit,' she muttered under her breath, placing her hands on her hips. 'What did I tell you about being careful?' she scolded. 'I told you to always do a triple check of your belongings before moving locations! How could something like that go over your head?'

'I'm sorry.' Tears welled in my eyes. 'I was in a hurry. I didn't think.'

North went silent for a moment before I heard her let out a sigh. She placed a hand on my head. 'I'll see what I can do, so sit tight. I'll ask around—see if I can get someone in there tomorrow to search for it—but I can't make any promises. The police are everywhere lately, and a necklace isn't worth risking lives for. I'm sorry.'

I nodded, my heart sinking slightly. If North can't get the necklace back, I guess I'll just have to retrieve it myself.

I waited anxiously for the others to return. I sat by a fire drum, anxiously chewing my nails down to their nailbeds as I stared into the open flames.

I wonder if Connor found my necklace? I thought absently. Did they even search the motel? Perhaps, they completely overlooked it? I don't know.

I held my head in my hands, my chest rising and falling rapidly. How could things go so wrong? First, I lost my parents, then my home and now I've ruined my entire life. I never meant to kill William. I just wanted him to stop hurting me.

I adjusted my navy blue sports bra, grimacing as I stepped out of the room my client had hired. I could still feel the man's hands on my skin and smell the alcohol on his breath, the lingering sensation of his lips on my neck making my stomach twist with disgust.
