Later in the night, Caitlin was stationed in the right wing of the cortex, typing some notes on her computer, waiting for Dr. Wells to come back from the lecture he left to attend earlier. Most of the lights were off except for one of the overhead lights by the entrance so she could keep a lookout for who came in.
The air was thick, a restlessness in the still space of the Cortex as all Caitlin did was wait for her boss to arrive.
This is it, Caitlin thought to herself. She knew this was their one chance to take him down—and it started with her deceiving the one man she thought she trusted the most.
When she thought about it, Caitlin wasn't really going after her boss—her idol. She was going after the man that stoled his identity all those years ago. They're taking down the man that appeared to be Harrison Wells. The man that went by the name Eobard Thawne.
Eventually, Caitlin heard the whirring sound of he mechanics from Wells's wheelchair as it echoed down the corridor, making its way closer to the entrance of the Cortex. She felt her back straighten up stiff as a board. Her hands clenched up as they moved about the keyboard. She prayed her nervousness didn't show when she talked to Wells.
This part of the plan, the first part. Her part, was the most important part of the plan. She will not allow herself to fail her friends.
Caitlin shot a glance behind her shoulder on cue, timing it dow to the exact second he'd make it inside. "Hello, Dr. Wells," she greeted him, her voice smooth and steady like any other conversation they've exchanged in the past. "How was your lecture?"
"Oh, boring, tedious. . ."
"Platitudinous?" she added.
Wells wheeled himself to the room Caitlin's was, a small, casual smile on his face. "Couldn't have said it better myself. Um, where—" he stammered, looking around the Cortex for something. For someone. "Where's Cisco?"
Caitlin went quiet for a moment, pretending to think about it. "Uh, he's in the bunker," she answered, playing her part. She stepped out of her lab and walked to the desk. "He thinks he finally figured out what went wrong at Christmas. You know, when we were trying to catch The Reverse-Flash."
"Yes, I remember. . .that night," Wells said, his tone shifting slightly, "Well, did he say what he found?"
Caitlin shook her head. "Nope, just that it was important."
Caitlin shot another glance at her boss, seeing by the look on his face, he actually took the bait. And not only that, he seemed intrigued by this news.
"Good for Cisco," Wells replied, sounding forced along with the smile on his face. "Well, maybe, I'll wheel on down there—see what he's got."
"Okay," Caitlin said, watching him as he exited the room. And when she knew for sure he's out of earshot, Caitlin bent closer to the desk, speaking into the mic to give her notice to her teammates, "Here he comes."
