I stood in my new bedroom, looking in the mirror. I'm so used to wearing a uniform, that this feels unnatural. I tugged at my cargo pants and straightened my ribbed cami. I pulled on my heeled army boots and tied my hair in a plaited pony. Lastly, I put on the necklace my parents gave me when I turned 16, with my name in fancy lettering: 𝒮𝑒𝓇𝒶𝓅𝒽𝒾𝓃𝒶
Downstairs, my parents were making breakfast for me.
"Ammi, Abbu, you didn't have to do this for me."
Ammi smiled, "Think of it as your welcoming breakfast."
"Look at you, all dressed up," Abbu said, handing me my weapons case.
Only naturally, Ammi freaked out.
"NO KILLING TOOLS IN THE KITCHEN!"
"Ammi, chill-"
The Darth Vadar theme song interrupted me.
"Swagger."
"Jeez, you even answer the phone like Steve."
"Hello Danny, I'm fine thanks for asking. And at least I'm pretty to look at."
I heard shouting in the background, "You're fired Swagger!"
"Can you please use your inside voice? Don't look at me like that. You've never even watched Barney. Sorry, Fin, come to the address I texted you. We have a case."
"Alright, don't pop that vein on your forehead, Danny."
"I'm actually going to go drown now, see you later."
I laughed and put the phone down.
"Bye Ammi, bye Abbu, love you. I'll see you later."
As I pulled out of the driveway, Ammi popped her head out the kitchen window, "Love you more!"
It's good to be back home.
