Commentator: Following the very brief opening fight here, we go almost straight into our next contest. Hailing from Vacuo and Shade Academy, Team BRNZ will go head to head, mano-a-mano with a team from the Atlesian Atlas Academy, known as Team FNKI.

And, as the triumphant choral sounds of the Red Army Choir and "Kalinka" echo around this packed Amity Arena, an already triumphant-looking Team BRNZ grace us with their presence- hoping for better than third place. Their members are, from your left to your right, Brawnz Ni, Roy Stallion, Nolan Porfirio, and finally May Zedong. Brawnz, as you may have picked up if you have eyes, is a very big lad, six feet tall and twenty stone; he will look to use every ounce of that to crush his opponents underfoot here today. Roy and Nolan play off each other adeptly, with Roy's harpoon gun- the Rapstallion- keeping an opponent in place long enough to be finished off with a quick blow from Porfirio's flail- known as the Danger Nolan. May is something of a loose cannon. We know he has a revolver that becomes some sort of short sword, and that he calls it the People's Weapon, but that is it. We could see anything from the Vacuan native here, and it probably won't be pretty.

And now for their opponents, coming all the way from the continent of Anima, and the nation and academy of Atlas, making their way into the amphitheatre to the big-band feel of Jeff and Casey Lee Williams' masterpiece RWBY vs. FNKI, yes, it's Team FNKI, looking like they just want to party in Vale. And believe you me, there are some good bars round here. Anyway, from left to right, they line up as follows: Flynt Coal, Neon Katt, Key Borcat, and Indigo Akooki. What do we know about these lot? Not a huge deal. They like to keep their weapons changing, only keeping their names intact. Flynt has the Coal Vein, Neon has the Katt As Katt Can, Key has the Lock And Key, and finally Indigo has the Indigreatsword. We'll likely see a very flamboyant and flashy fighting style all round from this team, who pride themselves on being the "Acrobats Of Atlas". And in just a few moments, after a check with Mistralian referee Kim Ki-Joon, they will get to show the entire world their trapeze act against BRNZ.

And we are underway, FNKI and BRNZ immediately retreating to their chosen biomes: FNKI claiming the asphalt city, while BRNZ station themselves in that arid desert. Key has scaled one of the cityscape's buildings with cat-like agility and is now raining down shots from her sub-machine gun into the sand, some scraping a terrified Team BRNZ who make it into the forest biome just as Key uses up her only clip of ammunition. With the two teams now in adjacent biomes, will we see hostilities truly start to begin?

Key leaps down from the top of that building, and uses Flynt's broad shoulders as a launchpad to launch a huge flying dropkick into the forehead of the opposing captain, Brawnz Ni, in a move that should neutralise his size advantage. But almost immediately, Borcat is hooked into the biome, as the harpoon of the Rapstallion finds its way through her belt loop and brings her down to the forest floor like a sack of potatoes.

Porfirio has his flail overhead and is ready to deliver not only a match-winning but possibly fatal blow to the lime-green-clad Key Borcat, and he- OH MY GOD! Neon springs into action and pounces upon Nolan, holding him down with the head of that sledgehammer of hers. But she can't hold off the whole of BRNZ by herself, and so Indigo and Flynt rush in to help, only to be held back by a quick-thinking May Zedong slashing at their midriffs with his People's Weapon. Brawnz not yet back to his feet, but he keeps a significant portion of his aura.

Flynt takes May, and Indigo finds his way to Roy, as Neon stays rooted to Nolan, and Key escapes to get back above Brawnz. Flynt leads forward with a straight punch but finds himself beaten by a quick pistol-whip from the inimitable May, as Indigo takes the upper hand over Roy with a quick stamp on the foot and the unsheathing of his simple khukri blade. Brawnz is back to his feet now, and makes one hell of an attempt to drive his hand directly through Key Borcat, which drives her all the way back to her city biome. She has 1% aura left, this could be over soon, folks. Neon still has Nolan down, and although she can't drain his aura this way, she can keep him out of action- when he's likely the most dangerous member of the team. Brawnz is looking around, as Key has disappeared, alas NO! She's atop the building again, but is running atop them until she finds the wall of that upper circle of spectators. As Indigo forces his khukri into Roy's arm, Brawnz barrels into Neon and Nolan is back up. Flynt and May are now trading blows that are doing minimal damage, all the way over in the hitherto unexplored lake biome, splashing like a mad fish. Nolan takes aim with his harpoon gun and-

HOLY SHIT! SWEET MOTHER OF JESUS! Roy's harpoon catches Key again, but she controls that fall beautifully, coming down after two perfect front-flips, perfectly atop the ribcage of Nolan, who Neon had just tripped over with that chop block quick enough to prevent an incredible shot from Roy winning this battle. And yes, that's it- the horn sounds.

Unsurprisingly, Nolan lost his aura from that, but so did Team FNKI's resident daredevil Key Borcat. Under Rule 1 of the Vytal Rulebook, however, FNKI win as their offensive manoeuvre led to the double wipeout. I suspect we will not be seeing Key in the doubles round, as she will need quite some recuperation from that fall. Neon and Flynt are helping her up, as Indigo retrieves his khukri from Roy, as the two shake hands to show the true friendly nature of this competition. Next up, the last fight before the lunch break, PINC versus CRDL.

"Jesus." Emily said, voice wracked with fear. "Jesus Henry Christ. Is she going to be alright?" Her hands shook as she asked the question. "Probably." Billy answered, sounding far more in control of his worries and emotions than any of his teammates. "Shush! We've got Penny next!" Ruby implored them. "Whom'st've?" Emily and Charlie jokingly asked in unison- despite not actually knowing just who this Penny was. "Oh, Penny," Yang explained, "she's just the Kerblam man that Rubes over here fancies."
"You're a dick, Yang!"
