Ah, LAX. I'd been here more in one month than I normally was in a year. I walked out of the front, and immediately saw Jordan waiting with Callie and Nathan. I walked over to them, filled with much less excitement than when I was going to Ohio. I gave them all the customary 'family' hug and got in the passenger seat of their family car. Nathan was telling me all about his soccer team whilst Callie drifted off to sleep next to him. Eventually, he fell asleep as well.
"You know you're going to have to carry one of them in the house with me, right?" Jordan asked
"Yeah I figured,"
"So how come you were in Ohio?"
"Oh, I was visiting a friend of mine,"
"How do you know anyone outside of California, you've lived here you're entire life,"
"Well first of all I have friends that moved and secondly I met this guy through Conor," I explained
"So, he's a guy?"
"Astrid just has you wrapped around her finger, doesn't she?" I said. She'd obviously told him to find out what he could about why I was there because we never talked about my social life
"Pretty much. Happy wife, happy life,"
I rolled my eyes "Really? Well anyway I was going to tell her about my friend,"
"I swear I hear the same amount of who likes who and so and so are going out at work,"
I laughed "Middle school. All the best drama happened in middle school,"
"Because in middle school it's not serious. High school is a whole other realm though." Jordan explained
I rolled my eyes "Hell on earth, more like,"
He laughed "Yeah,"
"I'm sorry, I don't want to be rude but I just need to call someone and tell them I landed,"
"Your friend in Ohio?"
"Yeah,"
"It's cool, we're literally ten minutes away from the house anyway,"

I turned on my phone, my wallpaper was a picture of me, Kells and Slim at the party. I didn't even remember taking the photo, we were probably high and drunk off our asses by that point, so I'm not surprised. We sure look it. But it was a cute picture. Immediately, I went to the favourites section of the phone app:

Mom❤️
Dad❤️
Astrid☄️
Conor🤩
Mgk😎

All my favourite people. And the only people I ever called. It was 2am in Cleveland. I didn't want to wake him. So I decided to just send him a text.
Landed nd safe, call me when u can xx
I would do anything for a hug from him right now. He gave the best hugs.

Jordan pulled up outside their house and unclipped the kids seatbelts, which woke Nathan up. He walked towards their front porch with Callie in one arm and Nathan holding his free hand. It was so sweet. My phone started ringing, it was Kells
"Hey! How come you're up?" I said. I was so excited to talk to him
"Oh, you know. Rook and Slim were here, brought a couple girls with them, we just hung out,"
The fact that there were girls bothered me a lot more than it should have "Sounds cool. I'm outside my sister's house right now, her husband is just putting their kids to bed,"
"Aw, how old are your sister's kids?"
"Five and six,"
"Aww! I bet you're a good aunt,"
"Well I bought them candy at the airport but I wouldn't call myself amazing,"
"I'm sure you are. When did your flight get in?"
I paused to think "About a half hour ago. We're going to go to the hospital soon, which is close by so it'll take like ten minutes to get there,"
"Okay. Have you heard at news?"
"No, I asked Jordan when I landed but it's still the same. Hopefully they'll be further along when we get there though,"
"Yeah, I hope they are. I should probably go, but call me when you hear something. Or in the morning, just because I miss you,"
He just made my heart melt sometimes "I miss you too,"

Jordan got back in the car, and we drove to the hospital. All the nerves that had somehow melted away whilst I was talking to Kells came back full force, worse than last time. All the bad outcomes started running through my mind, making me feel physically sick. Jordan dropped me off outside and told me he was going to find a place to park his car, and I walked into reception to find Astrid waiting for me
"Astrid!"
"Devon!" She replied with relief before we embraced. I shut my eyes right to stop tears coming out; after everything that had happened in my life recently, the comfort and familiarity of seeing my sister just overwhelmed me.
"I'm so happy to see you," Astrid said as I wiped a tear off my face
"Me too. How's dad's surgery going?"
"He's going to make it," Astrid told me. This was music to my ears, the best thing I'd heard in my entire life. It brought on a fresh wave of emotion and I started crying again "Don't cry! He's going to make it,"
"I know" I said between sob of joy "I'm just so happy he's going to be okay. Where's mom?"
"She's in the waiting room, just through there. He's on his final 20 minutes of surgery or something like that and then he's going to have a room and stay here for a week so they can monitor everything,"
"That's amazing. Oh my god I'm so happy," I said. I truly was. And now I got to see my mom.

We walked through a pair of pristine glass doors and saw my mom sitting in a plastic chair, typing something on her phone. She looked up when she heard us walk through the door and grinned from ear to ear, though she looked like she had been crying. Like Astrid and I, we hugged and the three of us sat down together as both my mom and Astrid sung Jordan's praises
"He just has been so wonderful, hasn't he darling? So supportive and understanding; Dev you better find a husband like that," My mom said
"Well I think Devon should tell us why she went to Ohio without telling anyone," Astrid said
"It wasn't planned, may I point out, it was very spontaneous. I literally booked the flight two hours before it was taking off. It was just this guy that worked with Conor, we became friends so I went out to see him," I said, carefully leaving out the part about the party
"This is literally the first time in your life you've ever been spontaneous,"
Mom looked at me "There's something you're not telling us," I swear this woman could see right through my soul
"No there isn't!" I was such a shitty liar, but fat chance they were getting that information out of me.

A nurse approached us "Mrs Stanton?"
"Yes?" My Mom asked
"Your husband is out of surgery. He's being taken to room 827,"
"Can we see him?"
"Unfortunately, no, not yet,"
