So, this is a series I'm continuing from my first random book that I've been meaning to get back to, but just haven't. If you wanna see my thoughts on every MCU movie from Iron Man to The Avengers, go look at my other random book.
Iron Man 3:
So, this movie. Oh, this movie. Guess what? Unlike the majority of the people who like the MCU, I actually liked Iron Man 3. No, the villain wasn't great and neither was that twist, but I've already covered that most MCU villains are really lackluster. So, yeah. But, this movie is just beautiful because of the fact that it's one of the only times in a superhero movie we get to see the aftermath of something happening in a different movie negatively impact a superhero. By that, I mean we get to actually see Tony have to deal with PTSD from taking a missile into fucking space. So, yeah. Also, despite the fact that I still do not ship Pepperony, Pepper was fucking bad ass in this movie, we got to see more Rhodey (I have the general opinion that there's no such thing as too much Rhodey, when we indeed tend to get too little of him), Harley was amazing, along with his chemistry with Tony, and we got to see Tony absolutely destroying bad guys even without the fucking Iron Man suit. So yeah, bad villain, but a really fucking good movie. Definitely a lot better than Iron Man 2.
Thor: The Dark World:
Fun fact, I watched The Dark World before I watched the original Thor movie. And guess what, once again, I seem to have a different opinion on this movie than the general fandom seems to, being which I actually liked The Dark World. I liked the fact that it showed us a much better relationship between Thor and Loki as brothers, and it was a really good movie. Once again, not a fan of Thor and Jane's relationship, but Darcy was fantastic as was Selvig. Not a very good villain either, Malekith is pretty forgettable and literally only has a couple lines and they're all in a foreign language so it's not like they're anything that'll ever really be memorable. No, the best scenes were by and far the ones that Loki and Thor shared together.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
My personal favorite Captain America movie. It's the one with the best villain (Bucky or Pierce, though I'd say Hydra as a whole? Like Bucky's more of a antagonist but not a villain), the best plot, has one of my favorite fight scenes in the entire MCU (that fucking elevator fight scene is just...amazing, and nothing you can say will convince me otherwise), I actually don't want to punch Steve in the face during the movie, and also it introduced us to Sam Wilson, who while I'm not the biggest fan of his MCU iteration, I still absolutely love him, and I think Anthony Mackie is doing a really good job of portraying him. Natasha kicked ass like normal, though I wasn't entirely the biggest fan of her in this movie (really upset they won't use Clint more), and Fury's performance was just meh (I'm not the biggest fan of Fury to begin with though). But yeah, definitely a really good movie, and I love it.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Holy fucking shit. You want an amazing Marvel movie that's got such a great fucking plot and is just absolutely a game changer? Watch this movie. Great fucking characters. Peter Quill? An amazing boy who needs to be protected from literally all the hurt he's going to face. Gamora? Yeah, no a fucking bad ass who was the first female superhero that I ten thousand percent love. Drax? Fucking hilarious and brilliant. Groor and Rocket? Like, their dynamic is great and I love them so much. Yondu? Well, he's my personal favorite character and I just loved him and yeah. Nebula? Yup, awesome, amazing, yet another female character I fucking loved. Sure, Ronan isn't the best villain, just seemed kind of cardboardy and boring, but that's something that's atypical of Marvel movies at this point. Guardians of the Galaxy is an amazing movie that has an equally amazing soundtrack, and I just love it, okay? Go watch it if you haven't.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
I think by this point, I just have opinions that differ than most people's when it comes to movies people don't like in the MCU. Because I actually liked Age of Ultron? I mean, it's my least favorite of the three Avengers movies we have so far, but I still like it? Yeah, there are definitely issues with it, but I'm fine with most of the things other people seem to have issues with. Bruce and Natasha have heart eyes for each other? Okay, no I can get behind that, they both need to be happy. Clint hasn't really been in other movies because he's got a family? Awwe, but look how happy he is with Laura and his kids. I'll agree that Ultron wasn't as great as he could've been, but he's definitely a mile high above most Marvel villains. And if you say that Pietro's death wasn't sad, then there is something blatantly wrong with you. The fact that we all thought it was going to be Clint, that's just, yeah. So, yes, good movie, maybe not super amazing or anything, but still. Really good movie.
Ant-Man:
Fun fact. When I first saw this movie in theatres, I found it a little...lack luster. Boring for a lot of it. All the good parts that I actually liked, well they'd been in the trailers. (Between this movie and Guardians Vol 2, they were the reasoning why I stopped purposefully watching trailers for Marvel movies). Then, when it came out on Blu-Ray and I bought it, and I rewatched it, I fucking loved it. I don't know what changed in between the two viewings, but something had. I watched it, and I loved it though, and Scott Lang became one of my favorite characters. Hope was pretty cool, though I wasn't the biggest fan of her in the first movie. Hank was alright, though I was actually disappointed he hadn't died in the movie. Darren Cross is one of my personal favorite Marvel villains, and I really hope Yellowjacket isn't actually dead, because I want him to come back. Louis was awesome, like definitely one of my favorite parts of the movie, and even the other two guys who I don't remember the names of were pretty hilarious. So, yes. One of my personal favorite movies, and proof that sometimes watching a movie you didn't like that much the first time again can change your experience of the whole thing.
Alright, well that's my thoughts on phase 2. I'm not sure when I'll do phase three, as there's still two more movies left before that phase is done and by the time it's done, there'll be ten movies all together in the phase. I might do the first five in one, and once both Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 come out into theatres, I'll do those? I'm not sure. But yeah, let me know what you thought of the movies as well?? I know a lot of people think Phase 2 is the worst phase for Marvel and their lowest point, but I love every movie in this phase, lmao.
