The first task had just finished, and I walked next to Hermione back to the Griffindor Common Room. The Tri Wizard Champions this year are Harry Potter, Viktor Krum, Fleur Delacour, and (you). The first task was to get the golden egg from the Dragon, and I had done pretty well, coming in 3rd place. Hermione and I were going to go back to her room to see if we could figure out what the next clue was. We would have solved it in the Griffindor common room, but Harry was already there, so we passed him and went up to her room.
Once we got there, Hermione locked the door, and put up a silencing charm. She didn't want Harry to be cheating, she wanted him to find the clue out himself. I opened the egg, and a loud, screeching sound immediately came out of it. I closed it without a second thought, and looked at Hermione with wide eyes, then starting laughing. She laughed too after that, and we ended up laughing our asses off on the floor.
Once we were done laughing, we sat up and faced each other. "So, what do you think the clue could be? Could it be some sort of banshee? I have no clue. Do you even thing it's for a creature?" I asked quickly. I wanted as much time as possible to get prepared for the task.
"Well I read about these creatures that would most likely live in the Forbidden Forest that only even communicate in screams like that, but it would probably be too dangerous with all the other creatures...." She went on about a few other creatures, then we decided we would look in the library tomorrow. None of the things she mentioned sounded likely to be the task.
~The next day in the library~
We grabbed a few different books about creatures, that Hermione had probably read a few hundred times already. Right now, I was looking through a book about different aquatic creatures, and one caught my attention.
"Look at this Mione.." I moved the book across the table to her. It was open to this page about some sort of merpeople. It said that their voices could be heard underwater, but above water, it sounded like some sort of screams.
"That could be it! But we could still keep looking in case it's not." She said, going back to her book.
"But this could totally be it though! Dumbledore could be having us go into the lake and.. and... doing something with these merpeople?" I looked at her with a blank face. "Wait, even if we can figure out what the creature is, we'll still need to figure out what this egg is saying. I say we take a break from looking and just try this." She just nodded her head, and put her books back where they belong, as I did the same.
Once we were done, we went to my room, and into the bathroom. Then we realized that there was no sort of tub where we could be in with the egg. I pointed this out to her, and she agreed that this wouldn't work.
"Oh! What if we go to the lake to listen. And remember, this might not even be it. If it isn't, don't be too disappointed." I laughed, and grabbed two towels and my bag, then we walked to the lake. I looked around and there was no one else here.
"I don't know about you, but I'm not going in with all my clothes on. Don't mind me." I said, taking off my robes and my shirts and pants. I was naked except for my bra and panties. I looked back at Hermione and noticed she was checking my body out with a blush on her face. "You coming?" I laughed, pretending not to notice.
I walked into the water as Hermione took some of her clothes off and walked in with me. The water was cold, and so we slowly eased ourselves in. Once we were up to our chests in water, I pulled Hermione under with me, and opened the egg.
Ghostly voices started singing
"Come seek us where our voices sound, We cannot sing above the ground, And while you're searching, ponder this: We've taken what you'll sorely miss, and hour long you'll have to look, and recover what we took, but past an hour — the prospect's back, too late, it's gone, it won't come back." ~J K Rowling~
I went above the water, gasping for air. "Did you get all that?" I asked Hermione once she breached the water.
"I.. can we listen again?" She panted. She was under the water a little longer than me.
"Probably, but we should catch our breaths first." Once we caught our breath, we listened to the message again. Then we got out of the water and dried ourselves, and walked back to the castle. For the rest of the day, we were trying to figure out what it meant.
We decided that the merpeople would probably be taking something we love (maybe the most important thing to us?) and then hide it somewhere in the lake. Then we'd get only one hour to find it and bring it to the surface. Any longer than that, then we couldn't get the thing back, it would be gone forever.
The day after that, we researched different ways to breathe underwater, and I decided that I would be making an air bubble around my head. We practiced a few times that day, and different times before the task. On the day before, I practiced one final time.
"What do you think will be taken from me? What do you think is most important to me?" I asked Hermione as we walked back to the castle.
"Would they take your cat?" Hermione joked. I had a tabby kitten that my mom had gotten for me before I went to Hogwarts this year. "Or could they like... put your books in a bag and hide them?" I laughed at that, shaking my head.
"Bust seriously, what do you think it would be?" I looked her in the eyes. I was starting to think that it might be Hermione that gets taken from me, and I was really hoping it wouldn't be. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I couldn't save her.
"Hermione, would you come with me please?" Dumbledore called to her. She turned to him, and I could tell she was anxious, probably trying to figure out what she did. "It's nothing to worry about dear, I just need to talk to you. And only you." He said, looking me in the eyes. She walked over to him, and they walked away. ————————————————————
Don't worry, there will be a second part to this, but it is already so long, I don't wanna make it any longer. I'll write it up soon, and I would really love to write any requests at all. They could be character x character, or character x reader, I don't care at all. Sorry for it being this long.
