When Elvis was a young boy, he promised his parents he would make a lot of money and buy them the finest house in town, putting an end to years of struggle.
On March 17, 1957, Elvis purchased Graceland for $102,500 and it's where he lived for the next 20 years of his life.
For elvis, Graceland was a charming and stately colonial revival-style mansion for himself and his parents and was the fulfillment of that childhood promise.
When Elvis purchased the mansion, the music gates were not part of the property. Designed for elvis by Abe saucer and custom built by John Dillers, the custom music gates were delivered amd installed on April 22, 1957.
Elvis and his parents called Graceland home for the remainder of their lifetimes.
