CHAPTER NUMBER TWELVE OF:
REWRITE THE STARS

ARIEL AND ERIC BEGAN speaking with Belle and Adam, the pairs laughing together before heading over to the photographer with their families. Rosalie and Ben looked behind them, seeing many people laughing and enjoying the party. Rosalie wished she could be as happy as them. They seemed so carefree. Meanwhile there she was struggling with pulling back the tears that threatened to spill every time she looked at Jay. Ben frowned and placed his hand at the small of Rosalie's back, the princess nodding and following him to their parents.

The families took pictures together then Rosalie and Ben took one — as Royal Advisor and soon-to-be King — then Ben stood in place with his parents to take a picture with them solo. "Oh, by the way, I have a new girlfriend." Ben told his parents. They looked surprise, but nonetheless relieved.

"Well, I never wanted to say anything, but I always thought that Audrey was a little self-absorbed. A fake smile, kind of a kiss-up. Do we know your new girlfriend?" Belle asked.

"On the count of three. One, two. . ." The photographer counted.

"Well, sort of. Mal!" Mal bid Evie goodbye before making her way towards the royal families, Adam and Belle's faces dropping in shock.

"Three!" The photographer captured the couple's shocked expressions and Ben with a wide smile. Rosalie chuckled and turned back to her family.

"So, Rosie, anyone you need to introduce us to?" Melody asked, nudging her sister's arm with hers. Ariel and Eric warned Melody and she simply waved them off. "Come on! Anyone?"

"Nope. Not this year, guys." Rosalie said, taking a glance at Ben before her eyes went to search for Jay. "But maybe next year or the year after that. If I ever get a boyfriend." She hummed, her family laughing.

"Rosie, dear!" Belle called, Rosalie turning with a small smile. "Would you care to join us at lunch with Ben, his girlfriend and her friends?" Rosalie swallowed the lump in her throat and pulled a smile.

"I'd be happy to." Rosalie followed them to the croquet sections of the garden areas. Everyone was tied up in their own things. Carlos was chasing Dude around, Ariel and Belle were teaching Evie the basics of croquet, Jay was struggling to hold the stick right and Ben laughed at him, and Rosalie and Mal stood off to the side watching it all. Queen Leah — Aurora's mother — was passing by when she stopped to take a look at Mal.

"Hello there." She greeted to Mal.

Mal smiled. "Hi." She said politely. Rosalie smiled, thinking of how Mal remembered everything Rosie had taught her. Although Rosie had fallen out with Jay a tad, she kept her growing friendship with Mal and Evie close.

"Now, have we met?" Queen Leah asked, furrowing her brows.

"No, I don't think so. I'm new. I'm sort of like a. . .  Transfer student." Mal smiled.

Queen Leah nodded and soon caught sight of Audrey. "Grammy!" Audrey grinned. "Oh, Audrey! Give grammy a kiss, dear." Queen Leah smiled as they shared an embrace.

"Grammy?" Mal asked. Rosalie took a step forward and towards Mal.

"Sleeping beauty's mother. Grammy, I don't think you want to be talking to this girl. Unless you feel like taking another hundred-year nap." Audrey spoke venomously.

"What?" Queen Leah asked. Rosalie whispered to Mal for them to leave, but Mal stood her ground. Rosalie sighed and looked to the floor. "You!" Rosie's head snapped up. "How are you here? And how have you stayed so young?"

Ben was soon behind his favorite girls. "Queen leah, It's okay. Maleficent is still on the island. This is her daughter, Mal. Don't you remember mine Rosalie's proclamation to give the new generation a chance?"

"A chance to what, Ben? Rosalie?" Queen Leah asked. "Destroy us? Come on. You remember, don't you? The poison apples. And the spells. Spells. My daughter. . .  Was raised by fairies because of your mother's curse. So her first words, her first steps, I missed it all! You mustn't trust her." She turned away dramatically and Audrey held her whilst Rosalie rolled her eyes at the older woman.

"I'm so so —" Mal tried to reach out to comfort Queen Leah, but Chad has stepped in her way.

"Go away! Stay away from her!" Chad said.

"Don't do this, Chad." Ben warned. "Back off, Chad." Rosalie spat.

"What? They were raised by their parents, Ben. What do you think villains teach their kids? Huh? Kindness? Fair play? No way, okay? Uh-uh." Chad turned to Mal. "You stole another girl's boyfriend." He then looked to Jay. "You enjoy hurting people." Automatically, Jay's eyes locked on Rosalie's.

I'm sorry, Rosalie mouthed. Chad turned to Evie. "And you, you're nothing but a gold digger and a cheater."

"Mirror, mirror, in my hand, who's the biggest
jerk in the land?" Evie asked once she had whipped out her magic mirror, pointing it to Chad to show himself.

"What? Come on!" He gasped in offense and smacked her hand away. Jay ran forward and gripped Chad by his shirt.

"Back off, Chad. All right?" Jay asked. "Back off!" Evie took out a spray bottle and held it towards Chad, sprinting it a couple of times, causing Chad to knock out unconscious. Rosalie's eyes widened as she took a step away from the scene, Melody rushing over to place a hand on Rosalie's arm. Rosalie then turned to see the villain kids rushing off before she turned back to the scene, seeing Chad now awake.

"I feared something like this would happen." Adam began. Rosalie furrowed her brows and pushed herself off of Melody to turn towards Adam.

"Pardon me?" Rosalie asked as Ben stepped up beside her.

"It wasn't their fault!" Ben added on.

"No, son. It's yours." Adam told him, eyes glancing between Ben and Rosalie. "Mom?" Ben pleaded. Belle said nothing and continued to walk away with Adam.

Rosalie let out a shaky breath. Ben noticed and quickly pulled her into his arms, Rosalie clinging on to his suit. In the moment all they had was each other and Ben had stayed true to his word — he never left her side.
