In our elementary school, there was a certain brunette known for his inhumane strength, strength that wasn't normal for a child nor for an adult. It wasn't only that, but Heiwajima Shizuo was also known for breaking a bone or two during his rampages. I honestly didn't have any plan whatsoever to get close to this person, being that he was the type to snaps easily. With that little information, I could tell that he was the type to be loud, something I absolutely despise. And more importantly, I wasn't fond of breaking my chain of normal encounters in my normal life, though it was slowly getting forcefully cut by meeting Kishitan Shinra.
And now was a good example on how the older male was breaking my series of average days in life.
"(Y/N)-chan, this is Shizuo-kun, my only friend in my grade level!" Shinra-senpai's eyes twinkled from excitement as he had his hand outstretched, presenting the rumoured boy.
Standing in front of me was a brunette with matching hazel eyes, a scowl present in his face. My young self felt intimidated by the aura this older child was releasing. I let my eyes wander to his casted arm, convincing myself to feel at ease since Heiwajima Shizuo has one hand tied behind his back, or in this case one hand immobile and injured.
"Shinra-senpai..." I gave him a confused stare, not particularly sure why he was introducing the male to me. "Aren't you going to start helping me?" I stated, gesturing at my books and papers in hand.
"Shinra, why did you bring this pipsqueak here exactly?" Heiwajima Shizuo spoke up, eyeing me as if I didn't belong here, which he has a point on since I was third grader in the sixth grade hall. "Are you supposed to be babysitting her?"
I felt somewhat offended by his comment about my size. It was a fact that I was a lot smaller compared to him; that was a given since I was younger and to might I add, a girl.
"That's rude of you to say, Shizuo-kun!" Shinra-senpai stated, puffing his cheeks as he complained about the taller male's attitude. "You too, (Y/N)-chan. Don't just ignore the fact that I just introduced Shizuo-kun to you."
The boy named Shizuo and I then glanced at each other, meeting each other eye-to-eye. It seemed gauche; we were basically strangers after all. He then proceeded to break the ill-comforting silence between us, giving me his name. Unlike my other meetings, he didn't offer a handshake, which I was gratefully thankful for.
"(L/N) (Y/N), nice to meet you." I gave him a shy nod, keeping in mind of the rumours about him. I then turned to Shinra-senpai who was grinning ear-to-ear as he had two of his only friends know each other. "Now, senpai, would you please tell why you're introducing Heiwajima Shizuo, the child with beastly strength, to a delicate young lady such as I?"
"I'm going to ignore the last part." The young Kishitani muttered before finally answering my question as well as Heiwajima Shizuo's. "Do you remember when you asked for consultation on self-defense?"
I thought about it for a while, remembering that I did mention it during a session with Shinra-senpai. I started to notice how unsafe the streets of Ikebukuro are, especially during at night. Even with my young mind, I knew that I had to find something to protect myself. I did think of using Reira as a shield then running away, leaving the innocent child. I now found that amusing, imagining how it would have turned out if I did that. Now recalling that Shinra-senpai had adviced a nearby dojo – which I tried going to but there was an older child that has a scary glare – I nodded in agreement.
Shinra-senpai's face was filled with glee at that, he looked like a young girl squealing after getting noticed by her unreachable crush. He then placed a hand on the taller twelve-year-old's shoulder before saying, "Alright, Shizuo-kun. I'm counting on you."
