As you can see from italic font of the letters, we would be starting this chapter with another flashback, an event that happened in the past. It is quite rare for this story to have this certain segment. After this current chapter however, portions like this would happen more frequently.
With that, it would help you collect more pieces of the puzzle and finally bring it together. We wouldn't want to drag this story longer than it should be. It's about time we start putting two and two together. Let's get on to the story now, shall we?
"I have to say, Reira-kun. You're clinic isn't too shabby." While twisting the computer chair around, Izaya commented so, voice hinted with a trill of mischief at the same time juvenility. "I'm wondering for how long this will last until you get bankrupt."
Reira frowned upon hearing the provoking comment, mentally noting just how much his spite for the taller male had grown just from laying his eyes on him. "Did you really just come here to do a bunch of irrelevant things?" The vet cocked an eyebrow as he shot the raven head an inquisitive gaze. "I actually beg to differ."
The clinic was currently empty, albeit the two young men. Closing time was a little over an hour ago, after all. It meant that the both of them are free to do anything they want, rather, discuss anything they want without the interruption of any costumers nor Reira's assistant.
"Of course, I wouldn't sneak out without a good reason. After all, I'm rather enjoying being alone with (Y/N)-chan." Seeing Reira's fingers twitch after hearing the statement, a satisfied smirk etched upon Izaya's lips. He found it amusing – Reira's and (Y/N)'s absurdity. Izaya traced his finger on the rough surface of the arm rest of the chair, highly anticipating how the brunette would possibly react to his next statement. "I wouldn't leave me alone with (Y/N)-chan so abruptly if I were you. Without you around, I can say that I have thoroughly enjoyed myself."
For a mere bystander, Reira's silence was deafening. For Izaya, it wasn't the least bit unsettling – he was enjoying it. "Didn't I tell you before? A man with desires could easily turn into a carnivorous wolf." The ebony-haired man continued, letting out a cynical chuckle. "How foolish of you. In her current state, it wouldn't be hard to take advantage of her."
Izaya's twisted, domineering smirk broadened at the sight of Reira's enraged face, the younger males veins throbbing. The former's narrow orbs widened, glinted delightedly like a maniac as he was immensely satisfied seeing how he was successfully pushing a composed man like Reira over the edge with his mere cunning words.
"Orihara, you..." His digits were turning white as Reira clenched them tightly. His words came out as a hostile hiss, even baring his teeth at the taller male like a threatened wild animal.
Twirling his chair to properly face the dark-haired brunette, Izaya rested his chin on his palms. Composing himself as he wouldn't want to get too excited, for it was just the beginning of their talk after all. "How about this Reira-kun, we'll play a short game before we get down to business." He suggested, eyes relaxing at the sight of the tan-skinned male regaining his composure once more, releasing a sigh.
"No." Reira already knew how much of a terrible gamble it is to dare play one of Izaya's games. It was always like he was betting his every belonging while Izaya's waging a mere penny, and in the end, he would be on the losing end. "I'd rather not risk my whole life."
Izaya was well aware that it wouldn't be wise to underestimate Fukao Reira's calm demeanour and his ability to read between the lines, think things logically while pushing his emotions out of the way. It was quite a fearsome quality he had, but the information broker was confident enough he would find a way to break though.
