Although the abrupt avowal was rather sudden, the usual gasps and surprised responses of the former Raira students weren’t perceived at the moment. The audience seemed neither unimpressed nor surprised stunned – it was an expression of casualty, void of any significant amounts of emotion. Even though their feedback wasn’t quite special, it didn’t remove the gazes almost boring through the both of us.

“Well, I kind of expected it.” I muttered blandly, breathing out a long exhale as I spared a glance towards the culprit of the admittedly not too flattering missive. Proceeding to lean back with my fingers almost digging through the soft sand beneath my palms, I gazed back at his mildly abashed round, black orbs as gradually, he put his arm down. “You could have used more heartfelt words in your message, you know.”

“Oh, shut it. You should appreciate I wasted some good stationary and ink on you.” Reira retorted, eyebrows knitting together slightly as he rolls his eyes before pressing his cheeks on his left palm, almost covering the lower half of his face whilst his elbow rested on his knee. “It wasn’t like I had anybody else to write to in this class.”

“What are you talking about, Rei-kun?” A previously male classmate of ours, Mikeru, playfully jabs my childhood friend’s side lightly with his elbow, grinning widely as he gushed the words put in a playful, teasing tone. “Weren’t you just crazy for Hina-san back in the days~”

At the mention of the girl’s name, I can’t help but recall those times when nothing else but the said female was spewed out of Reira’s lips. It was honestly quite sickening hearing the same name over and over again. However, I’ve got to admit that I did see that Akio Hina seemed quite in to my best friend as well.

I would be lying if I said that I did not fear splitting my quality time with the said girl – perhaps I was just a little too attached with my dorky friend. In any case, I wouldn’t really go as much as to get in the way of his happiness. I have to say that I can’t quite remember if they ended up together back in high school – probably, since they did both appear to like each other.

“I do remember you talking about her quite a lot back then.” I muttered quietly with a low hum, before whirling my head to completely face the brunette vet. “Say, did you two end up together?”

“Gosh, stop it.” The tan-skinned male grumbled, almost burying all of his face in his arms and knees, seeming to avoid any sort of eye contact with his former crush who was situated just seven seats away from him as it was quite apparent that he was embarrassed of his former self. “Hina-san didn’t say yes to me, goddamit.”

Those who heard his silent confession released a soft chuckled, Ramisu Mikeru rubbing Reira’s back as a means of sympathy. I can’t help but wonder if my best friend happens to still have that little crush dwelling inside his heart. I could understand if he still does though, Akio-san is honestly good-looking, athletic as well, and not too mention harbours a good sense of humor – the only lacking within her is the wits. In a way, she’s the opposite of I am.

“I can deny it though even with the fact that it wasn’t much of a surprise to learn that you wrote the message for (Y/N) – especially knowing the content, most of us kind of expected you to write to Hina-san.”  Ramisu confessed, earning him a few quite mutters or nods of agreement from some, our homeroom included as she loved looking for juicy gossips from our class – not something I could appreciate though. “Well, not that it matters much. It is just a bit sad that Reina wouldn’t happen anymore.” The spiky-haired male mumbled out dejectedly with a heavy sigh, before shifting his gaze towards both Reira and I with a flamboyant beam. “I have great expectations for the both of you though. I want to be the godfather of the first born – hopefully it would be a boy.”
