Ace's POV

Marilynn looked so peaceful laying next to me, letting out small snores. She looked exhausted, but definitely more rested than a few weeks ago when she fell asleep in her room with me. Since then, she's ended up in my bed or vice versa every night. She never elaborated on her nightmares, but I didn't need to pry. I had a bad feeling they were about her father.

That bastard was still out there and it was pissing me off more and more everyday. I growled quietly, trying not to wake Marilynn, but my wolf was getting restless. He despised the thought of someone being out there that could harm his mate, his child. I tightened my hands around Marilynn's waist, bringing her as close as her bump would let.

Since we brought Marilynn home, our relationship has gotten better. For the first few weeks, we didn't talk much. I wanted to desperately, but I didn't know how to approach her. I wanted to apologize and protect her like I should have. If I did, she wouldn't be coming into my room nearly every night with dried tears on her cheeks. Instead, she would have safely been in my embrace, dreaming of happy things rather than the horrors she experienced first hand.

She still hadn't talked to anyone about the events. Sometimes she'll mumble things to herself and we'll ask about it, but she'll just change the subject or wobble out of the room.

I think that's the best part of this pregnancy. She has started to wobble like a cute little penguin. Marilynn hates when her sister or I try to help her, she's terribly stubborn, but lately she's gotten better since she can barely reach anything with her bump. Unfortunately, with all the cuteness, her hormones have also been messing with her lately. She was mostly angry all the time, always snapping at us if something slightly irritated her, but there was also the odd time where should would get sad over little inconveniences. She would cry and it would take a while to calm her down. Marilynn was kind of like a baby. When she cried, she either needed to be comforted or needed food.

She was adorable.

I regret not marking Marilynn the moment I met her. I lied to her, rejected her and then continued to hurt her by being unfaithful. It was all because I was too dumb to see how lucky I was to get a second chance. My first mate, Riel, was absolutely amazing and I still miss her terribly, but the void I felt before was now slowly being filled by Marilynn. Riel will always be a part of me, but now Marilynn also held a part of me.

I sighed gently, looking down at her one more time. She was breathtaking. I kissed her forehead softly before slowly falling asleep with my mate in my arms.

——

"Marilynn!" Isabella shrieked. "Stop! You're going to hurt yourself!"

Isabella rushed over the Marilynn who was trying to grab a plate that was just out of reach. Marilynn rolled her eyes and continued to stand on her tip toes while Isabella kept scolding her. I chuckled from my seat at the island before approaching the short, bickering twins and reached over their heads to grab the plate.

"No fair!" Marilynn pouted. "You're too tall." She took the plate before getting her food and taking my seat at the island. I rolled my eyes and sat next to her.

"Marilynn," Isabella called from the fridge. "Have you thought of names yet?"

Marilynn sighed.

"No..." She mumbled as she moved her food around her plate with her fork.

"What about Henry?" I asked.

Marilynn's face scrunched into distaste as she shook her head.

"How about...Zoe?" Isabella asked, walking over the island to join us.
