Chapter Thirty Seven
= LOUIS's POV =
"You don't know where she went?" El nags at me. I can't keep her to shut up. I nearly crashed the car because of her yelling. We haven't even gone to the place I thought of and she's already judging me. Women.
She shrieks when my phone began to ring. "You've never heard a phone ring before?" I say to her sarcastically. I pull my phone out of my pocket. An unknown number flashes on the screen but it could be Meg so I answered it.
"Meg's with us."
I recognize that voice. It's Meg's stepdad, Rick. He gave me the address and luckily, I haven't pass that turn yet. When we reach the local clinic, I dread to think what happened to her. But if it's a clinic it means it's not that serious, right? I got out of the car and locked it behind me.
In the waiting room, Meg's mum is seated there holding a sleeping Meg. Her wrist is wrapped in bandage and I hope she'll tell me why. I look up and Rick calls me over.
"We were driving past and we saw Meg getting cornered by a stranger." He sounds serious and stern. It's frightening.
"We... Um... We had an issue..." I say, scratching the back of my head nervously.
"She was in a pub in the middle of the night. It must be something more than an issue."
What does he expect me to say? Does he expect me to say that I lied to her daughter that I went out with my ex a few times without mentioning it? Or that I got stuck in a closet with the same ex without explaining to Meg that nothing happened?
I was lost. My tongue got caught in my throat and I can't find the right words to say to Rick. I feel as if the smallest word I say might cause a huge problem.
"You don't need to tell me," I feel myself relax when Rick said that. "Just make sure your promise is kept a promise." He says and walks past me to Meg and her mum.
Lilia walks up to me but with a warm smile on her face. "Do you want to tell me?" She asks but I find myself in the same situation as I did with her stepdad.
"That's wrong of me to ask so instead, could you do me a favor?" I nod. "Fix whatever your issues are. If you can't fix it, then end it."
My stomach drops. "Don't torture yourselves, it's not good for both of you. Meg's already gotten her heart broken by her father, I wouldn't want you to do the same."
"I'd never do that." I tell her, surprised by my own confidence.
"I know. I can tell how much you care about her all the time so why stop now. I don't want my daughter to come running back to Cecile because something happened."
"And you won't." I say bravely, earning a smile from Lilia.

"You're lucky her mum's really nice." El says as I pull over their front door.
"Yeah." I say and unlock the door for her. She gets out swiftly and disappears inside her house right away.
As I drive down the streets, I hear Meg groan and she sits up. "I need to pee." She slurs with her eyes closed. I panicked when she got her seatbelt off and was about to open the door.
"Whoa, whoa, calm down. We'll pass by a gas station in a while." I had to grab hold of her arm because I'm afraid she'd jump out of the car. I turn right into the gas station and park in front of the bathroom.
She gets out without saying anything. She pushes the door and runs inside. I got out of the car and follow behind her. I'm not going to sit around here and wait for her to puke a lung. This feels so déjà vou, seeing her on the floor, shaking and letting all the contents of her stomach out.
