Chapter 4

It was the next morning at 6am. Steven started to wake up. But he still felt exhausted. He slowly opened his eyes to find the ceiling of his hospital room. He let out a load groan and sat up in his bed.

"Ugh, my head." He was rubbing the side of his head to help it feel better. Then a realization hit. He had never stayed at a hospital before. He didn't know where he was. A panic rose up in him. He looked all around but nobody was there. He was by himself

"Guys?! Garnet! Amethyst! Pearl! Connie! Where are you?! Help!" He frantically tried to figure out what to do so he looked around for something to help him. He found a remote with a bunch of buttons on it. He didn't know what was the right one so he pushed a few at the same time

Unfortunately, one of those buttons was to raise the level of his pain medication. Steven accidentally sedated himself

"Whoo, I feel......weird. Why does....everything.........look weird? I think.......that was......the........wrong...........button." His eyes were drooping and eventually he fell back asleep. He fell back in his bed and dropped the remote on the floor. On the bright side, Steven did end up hitting the call button and a nurse came walking in

"Are you okay Steven Univer- oh! Probably should've put the remote where he couldn't reach it." She picked up the remote and put it out of Steven's reach. The gems came back into the room. The nurse turned around to explain everything

"Uh, you're his 'moms' right? Don't worry. I think he woke up and accidentally hit the pain relief button. It should be out of his system in a few hours. In the meantime, just sit tight."

Pearl turned to the others with a scowl and her arms crossed. "I told you one of us should've stayed here with him. But of course, no one wanted to listen to me."

A few more hours has passed and Steven was waking up again. This time, with all the gems present. They heard him moving around. They stood up and walked to his bed so he would feel more secure. His vision was blurry for a few seconds but cleared up.

"Hmm. Guys?!" They all smiled at him. Connie suddenly walked in. Her jaw dropped and the bag she was carrying fell to the ground. She couldn't believe it

"Steven!"

"Connie!" Steven sat up quickly in his bed and Connie came running towards him to give him a big hug. Unfortunately, she was a bit too rough. His body was still very sore

"Ow! I'm glad to see you too. Where am I?"

"You're in the hospital. We didn't know what else to do. And since you're fully human now, I thought it'd be fitting."

"Wait, what?!" Connie then began to explain what happened and he got here. Amethyst then interjected when Connie was done

"Uh dude, what happened when we walked in here a little while ago?"

"Huh? Oh! I woke up a few hours ago but you weren't here so I panicked. I found this weird looking remote. I thought maybe it would help but I pushed the wrong button. The next thing I knew, I was asleep." Connie face palmed

"Oh, Steven. That was your pain medication. If you push the button, it gives you more and it makes you drowsy. How many times did you hit it?" Steven blushed from embarrassment

"Uh, 5 times." Garnet spoke up

"No wonder you were asleep for 7 hours."

"7 hours?! What time is it?!" Steven glanced at the clock on the wall. It read 1:00 on it. "Oh geez." Connie put a hand on his arm

"It's okay Steven. You didn't know. Anyway, I brought some stuff for you. I stopped by your house and grabbed your things."

"Aw, thanks Connie."

"I brought some extra pillows, blankets, and I even brought your stuffed bear!"

"Yes! MC Bear Bear!" Steven grabbed the bear from Connie's hands and placed it next to him in the bed

"I also brought some snacks. Including donuts from the Big Donut."

"You didn't have to do all this Connie."

"It's the least I can do. I want you to be as comfortable as possible while you're recovering."

"Thank you. You're the greatest friend anyone could have." Steven leaned forward to hug Connie. She blushed deeply. She chuckled nervously

"Y-you're welcome."
