It was late at night and Steven once again couldn't sleep. But it wasn't just the anxiety. They were gonna go back home tomorrow and he felt unsure about what would happen

He got out of bed and quietly slipped out to the balcony. Nobody noticed since both Greg and Pearl were sleeping. She became exhausted after taking care of Steven the past 3 days. She insisted that she would be okay but Steven knew she was tired. He wanted to give back since she had done so much for him. She layed on the floor with a single pillow and a soft blanket covering her whole body with just her head sticking out. You could hear the sounds of her soft heavy breathing alongside Greg's snoring

As Steven solemnly stared at the brightly lit city in the distance, he sighed and took out his phone. He figured it was time to talk to a friend. Steven leaned on the railing in anticipation as the phone started to ring. Suddenly there was a hushed female voice on the other end

"Hey Connie." He started feeling embarrassed

"Steven? What's going on? It's 3 in the morning." She yawned on the other side and rubbed her eyes to try to be more awake for him

"Sorry to wake you. I couldn't sleep and I really need someone to talk to."

"It's okay, I'll stay up with you. Tell me what's wrong." Connie sat up in her bed to be more alert

"It-it's just....I don't know how to feel about Pink Diamond anymore. She hurt so many people and I'm left cleaning up her messes. And I don't even have powers anymore. I'm useless. I...I don't even know who I am anymore."

"Steven, you don't need gem powers to be helpful. Being human isn't that bad. Sure we don't have a shield or a protective bubble but you can still make a difference in people's lives. And Pink doesn't control you. You have to make your own destiny." Steven felt a sense of relief hearing his best friend say that. He let loose a smile even though she couldn't see it

"Thanks Connie. I can't let this control me anymore. And I think I know a way you could help. Your mom is a doctor right? Does she do therapy too?"

"I mean it's not her specialty but she does have practice with it. I'll talk to her in the morning to see if she has room for you in her schedule. In the meantime, try to get some sleep."

"Okay. Could you stay on the phone with me until I fall asleep?"

"Yeah, of course."

With having his best friend by his side, Steven went back inside and crawled into bed. He layed on his back while holding the phone up next to his ear. Connie also decided to get comfortable in her own bed

The two just layed there in silence until Steven started feeling anxious. "Connie, are you still there?"

"I'm right here Steven. You know my birthday is coming up. Maybe you can help me. You are the best party planner I know." Steven went on to explain all the wonderful ideas he has to make Connie's birthday super special

".........You'll have the best birthday ever." He let out a big yawn over the phone as his eyes were drooping. He felt his eyes getting really heavy. Before he let the sleep consume him, he had final words to say to Connie

"I love you Connie." Steven didn't know but Connie blushed deeply at this remark. She wasn't sure if he would hear her but she said it anyway

"I love you too Steven."

As soon as she heard his breathing slow down, she knew he had gone to sleep. She hung up the phone, set it on her nightstand, and went back to bed

Pearl woke up a few minutes later and found Steven asleep with the phone still in his hand. She got up and carefully pulled it out of his grip

She placed it on the desk next to his bed, and layed back down. She didn't know what he was doing but it seemed to make him feel better. And that was enough to put her mind at ease for a while
